How far up from the tail would I but the 10" box for 6’8" sing fin egg? It’s flat bottom, not a hull with a 15 1/2" tail.
A flat bottom isn’t really an egg. Eggs have no flats at all. Curves everywhere.
Anyway, I’d put the box as far back as the tail thickness will allow
hold the fin upright approx. where you think it might go
next, prop it up with something, like a coffee cup, can of beer, etc…
now, stand back and look at it and make any needed adjustment fore/aft based on the visual - you know what’ll look right, and odds are that’s where it should be (make some measurements now, for future reference)
finally, get your box and mark it
voila!
I put mine between 6-7
Thanks guys. My glasser said 6 1/2 so I went with this. Hope it works better as a single than it did as a quad. It’ll be fun to try it as a single with sides as well.
side bites are the way to go !!
Nice egg Zack. how far up off the tail are those sidebites?how big are they?do you run them 1" off the rail? how much toe and can’t are you using? How about tail rocker? And while your at it ,can I have your firstborn ? No ,seriously though, I want details?
Hey Ekim, im still in the learning stage of working out where the hell to put the fins ! trial and error at the moment. I would try send Bill thraikill a pm he commented once on my two plus ones saying he did a very similar setup in the late 60s ??? hed know much better than I would. Any advice Bill ?
Nonetheless from memory i think i put these at:
15" up
1 1/4 in (trail edge)
with 1/4" inch toe. ( leading edge)
5 degree cant (more or less depending on vee depth)
Thanks. I’m throwing this box in an existing quad so this front side fin boxes are set at 12" from tail.Probabaly wont work as a 2+1. Works good as a quad but depending on the wave there’s nothing better than a single fin as you probably know. What kind of tail rocker do you put in these eggs? Mine has 4" nose 2" tail. I was thinking if my egg works better as a single ,doing another one with a little less tail rocker. I’ll post picks when it gets back from the glasser.
