Hi, my first attempt at a simmons syle board is all most complete, with great results, 5'6''x 22 1/4 x 3 and the tail is 14''. just wandering wot style of fin would suit this board, leaning to wards a wooden fin , but fish keels look to big, wot about half moons, does any body have a template, im going to try and make a pair . All so like th K1 futures template but not in glass. Double foiled or single foiled to. Can u tell the posative bouyancy effects of wood fins.
This fin worked great on a Stamps shaped Mini Simmons I had. They were by made by Pro Box Larry. Sorry I don’t have the board anymore for the fin dimensions, roughly 4" x 8"? and single foiled. Kind of like a low keel with a half moon rear. Alot of drive but loose enough for turns and didn’t slide out. Rode this 5’2" alot from tiny to overhead.
Thanx, ive got a fish keel template but have half mooned the back edge replacing the cutaway section, looks very simlar to your fins on the picture.
that is a great angle. very revealing.
Hey standishowl
Below is a simmons fin template 9 1/2" base x 4 3/4" high. These fins and the home shaped simmons board they’re attached to can be seen here: http://bobby-somers.blogspot.com/
Print the full scale PDF attachment. Make sure your adobe reader settings are set to SCALE=NONE
Have fun and report your progress on the board!

love the sea shep keels. lots of drive off the pump and no slippage on cutbacks. I adjusted the fin box placement so the trailing edge of the fin is 2.75" from tail. Should shape your own version if you have the means.
How much rocker and tail curve seems to make a big difference with what fins will give you responsiveness from what I’ve found. If you have curve in the tail like around 1" of rocker or a little more, and a tail around 12", large keels seem to suit it perfectly with lots of drive and very easy to surf top to bottom.
If the Simmons has very little rail rocker (1/2" or less) and a wider tail (around 14") I’ve found M5 fins to work really well in a strong construction like fibreglass or wood. I haven’t tried half-moons, but I can imagine the earlier release point on more curvey half moons could go really well…: For example I would make the half-moon template above less verticle at the rear, shave off some of the top, and make it more oval like you see on some hydrodynamica simmons.
thanx fella's , cheers greenlight, very helpfull.
Thanks for the pic Greenlight, Im going to give that shape a go.
you should draw that template up Caveman.....
hello mate, don't surpose youvé got a liddle flex template or a greenough flex template for a long board, 10''.
oops
tried some new fins on mine today with excellent results, only had 7 or 8 waves but the manouverability and speed, forgiveness all improved, it just felt even more alive and more fun and I was already stoked on how this board was going, others have ridden it and loved it too, so I'll have to get some others to try it with these new fins......STOKED>>>>>
