Howzit hang20, B or E . I do have one thing to add about making logo designs, there should be some thing that shows where the center of the lam is on the top and bottom so it can be centered on the stringer. I had one lam tht I had to fold just right so it could be centered. Aloha,Kokua
design c and design d look to much like a psuedo division 2 school’s football logo. I like design a and f, but with some variation. Some color in the negative space would be nice too, unless it will be white, not clear. Then some basic color combos for lettering and foliage.
Thanks guys! All these comments are really helpful. Kokua, Brilliant! I’ve always had trouble lining up my designs and incorporating some center marks is a great idea.
Hi , not really my taste in logos but looking ok, definitely mix it up a bit more if your looking for constructive feedback, My graphics tutor would have said " so wheres the different ones"…
Here’s a new version. I added a triangle element on the bottom and extended one line of the top most leaf. This is to line it up easy on the stringer. Some color, some font reworking and here we are. What do you guys think?
I’m a Los Angeles surfer. We deal with crowds, tons of kooks, dirty water, hollywood egos, traffic, malibu egos, and a boat-load of rediculous nonsense. You need to have a humor to be a surfer here. So when I was out walking my dog he squatted to take a grump and I thought to myself, “dang he’s totally hanging 20.” That’s where it came from. I followed him on his walks taking pictures for a few days until I got one where he was looking particularly determined. That became the logo. I thought it summed up the playful subversive humor it takes to deal with LA. He’s both hanging a sweet 20 and taking a crap. Its kind of a hidden middle finger to the BS we all have to deal with and hopefully people get it and have a chuckle.
Howzit hang20, I like this one even better and even though you only have 1 point for centering ,just fold it so the crease runs though the tip of the triangle and the sies of the oval line up. after you fold it the half then cut a vee at the top and the bottom of the folds and there is the centers to line up on the stringer. What I started doing when designing logos was to do them on graph paper which makes it easy to find the center. aloha,Kokua
Yep. There is a little tiny line on the top leaf that sticks out. It doesn’t show up well on the little jpegs, but when printed out or screened it should show up.
instead of a smaller triangular flourish under the brand, how about enclosing the entire oval in a red diamond field, similar to bear’s logo from big wednesday? you could just add a white oval margin (and around the leaves on top) to “float” the logo proper & for color contrast against the red backdrop :
IMO centering the logo along the stringer would be much easier in that pointy diamond shape.
New version is getting better. MAYBE try to pump up the WA words and back down the leafs?
Only comment I’d say is try to maximize the font as best you can in the space provided while keeping a strong sense (through scale, color, etc) of foreground (WA) and background elements (color fill, other pieces).
Easier to read especially once waxed over…!
DON’T be a “hipster surf artisit” and scribble.
You’ve done good w/the retro but nautral look.
nice peaceful, natural look. NOT super computer-looking which I like in this use.
if the guy’s stoked, you can repurpose the same look and feel and maybe make a W.A (just initials+leaf+oval) version for small scale use?
constructive criticism - take it for what it is worth - for a professional look, i think you need to have the lettering hand drawn or created from scratch. these fonts look like 'word art'
Has thousands of free fonts and most of them are very professional and will give you a very elegant look and feel. Hand drawn is nice, but only if you have a lettering pro do it and even then it is very hard to recreate electronically in a vector format for universality.
If you have it hand drawn, Have it done with black ink on a pure white paper. Scan it in and set it;s layer to “Multiply” in photoshop. This way the white will drop out and you can lay it over other design elements. Or just use it simply use it on white and be done with it.
as for your white ash - instead of an oval or diamond background shape, maybe you could use a leaf instead. picture one simplified leaf with your lettering superimposed on top of it. and i agree with some of the comments regarding the font you chose – it looks generic. with the amount of free fonts online i think you could do better!
