(Sorry if this has been brought up already, but I haven’t found it yet.)
Is it worth it?
Following Oneula’s advice, I’m using the KISS method. on a 1 lb eps board with a 1/8" luan stringer. My plan is to lightly baste the blank with epoxy/microballoons and add a little white pigment.
My pump went toes up on me so I figured I’d just lay the glass by hand; 3 layers 6 oz. on the deck and two on bottom. Fins are glass on twinzers from Fiberglass Supply.
I finished hotwiring the blank and am very pleased with the results. Will post pics later today.
Dims are: 6’2" x 15" x 21" x 16" 2.5" thick Nose rocker=4.25" Tail=2.25"
I’ve used pigment in my seal coats (epoxy+microbaloons) in every EPS board I’ve ever built. It works. If you want to do a resin tint or opaque in your lamination, putting pigment into the seal coat is one way to even out the color some. I usually end up sealing twice when doing color. Personally, I never paint a blank. .
BTW, I like your dimensions a lot, epsecially with the fin setup. I have a twinzer with similar dims. Any chance you’d post up a pic of the blank?
