Walker sold his formula(s) to Ice Nine. They produced it and named it MoWses with the “W” in honor of Harold (Walker). The foam was excellent. I have my last 2 HPBS shortie blanks going thru now since Ice Nine closed down.
To my knowledge there is no Walker Foam to be had unless it was sold off to a broker who may have some scarce inventory.
If you want excellent polyurethane foam contact Surfblanks America or U.S. Blanks. These are the two best sources in the USA.
Surfari sucks. Literally. Perhaps they were good at one time. Surfding cut quite a few different types of foam for people He probably has more experience machining more different foams than anyone. Seriously.
I took some precuts and threw them in a big truck when I p.u several hundred blanks during his downsizing. I shaped up one of them into a clean little fish, painted nice…two colors, glassed the bottom and the whole thing blew gas… yup, it was a Surfari. What a waste.
Empire Foam is good. It was brought her domestically in limited quantities as the result of a China factory close down. They were planning to relocate in Thailand. Seriously, you guys should look into that Aussie formula, make some boards and sell them to your own people once you teach them how to swim, then surf.ct
There are numerous threads on Chinese and Asian production. My customers don’t want your product and even if I could sell a gazillion of them and get them all finished for $110 per board, I wouldn’t do it.
Why?
Because I love making my own boards, and to prostitute myself by sticking my name on your stuff just isn’t in my psyche and never will be.
hah... I will take your persuasive advice into serious consideration when i have enough time&$ to surf.
If this industry can help us earn more GDP, probably this game or lifestyle will be popular here some day in the future. Personally i admit it's lack of surf culture here and indeed some inferior surfboards coming from China. You may want to say 'how could a guy never learnt swim try to make good surfboards?' Well, that's true, but as what i witness, the whole domestic industry is advancing and people's mind has changed a lot. It's only the matter of time that this game gets high if 2012 is not the doomsday.
And deadshaper, don't you think you spoke too arrogant? i've seen you too many times boasting yourself by belittling others. If you don't want use, keep the word yourself. After all, thanks for your information setting me a good example for learning more at least.
Practice your english a bit more. A chasm exists between the difference between arrogance and speaking from decades of experience in an industry. I’ve never stated that ANY individual that chooses to work in the surfboard industry had to surf as a prerequisite to building surfboards. I know several Mexicans here that do great work that do not surf including some of my former work crew They don’t surf but I trained them for what I needed from them. They had a great work ethic and I helped one of them become a citizen when the Amnesty Program became available to them.
Is that arrogance?
My ‘arrogant’ suggestion was probably where I said workers in Asia should have the opportunity to enjoy the sport as we do… or as I stated in the thread “share the stoke”. This was upon finding out that very few Thai’s and Chinese even knnow how to swim. And that revelation, as startling as it was, was confirmed by a Thai.
I guess if I was as you suggest, I wouldn’t have replied to someone that PM’d yesterday from Indonesia asking a question about foam density? Why, I have no idea, but I answered their question.
I guess the bottom line here, and for any of the tired and boring threads about Chinese and Asian production is, why would a guy halfway across the world want to willingly give up his job, his livelihood that pays his bills, supports his family, and is his passion… why would he give up his job to some guy 10,000 miles away?
I guess I’ve finally reached my bottom line on ALL THE THREADS ABOUT ASIAN PRODUCTION.
I’m not threatened nor do I even care what they offer. $150, $110, $70, $50, $30, $10 FREE!!!
It really would not mean snot to me.
That’s not “arrogance” that’s passion for loving what I do while making a living to feed my family.
Why would I or anyone else give up their job for some worker half way around the world that I don’t know from Adam?
I tell you what arrogance is… it’s having some person with limted english tell me to shut my mouth and to butt out of a public forum if I “don’t want to buy” THEIR STUFF!
That hits a nerve with me when I start to think that the guy on the other end is a communist that is now embracing capitalism and has the ARROGANCE to tell me HIS RULES.
How many of you that post here are ready to do, uh, “the right thing” (?) and just let the guys n gals in Asia build ALL the surfboards??? What shall we call it “in the name of being politically correct” or not wanting to take a stand and offend anyone?
Pure unadulterated bullshit.
If everyone is up for that then we sure as hell don’t need a Swaylock’s Surfboard Design Forum, now do we?
"arrogance is......... it's having some person with limted english tell me to shut my mouth and to butt out of a public forum if I "don't want to buy" THEIR STUFF!"
OOOPS, I should really reconsider my way of expressing or some hysteria guy just make up the whole story.
I don't care what you think, and either this forum is not open just to you, right? If you're just tired of THREADS OF ASIAN PRODUCTIONS, why bother looking at them?
Limited English? Yes, I admit, I just learnt English for several years. Capitalism? Yes, We admit, we just learnt it for several decades. Well, but really sorry for your job-unemployment if we happen to taking such chance.
"The right thing"? The right thing i stay here is to learn not to fall into some stupid debate.
