Who makes pulled in nose longboards for those who don't want to nose ride?

Subject heading pretty much covers it.

As a surfer who likes to ride all kinds of craft it seems there’s a gap in the genre of longboards.

I really have no interest in nose riding a longboard.

I am interested in their glide and un-ashamedly interested in ones that paddle like sharks to out paddle others on wide nosed longboards that are taking all the waves.

Also looking for a board that can handle steeper drops so they are versatlie in a wide range of conditions and wave sizes from 1-6’ but not a longboard gun as such.

Greg Loehr used to make the Millennium.  Way back when.  I think Rusty came out with the Desert Island the next year.  This one is 9-0.  I could send you some numbers.

This is what I designed a few years ago and has proven to be

a shape a lot of guys like for the very reasons you posted.  These

are 9'3's and catch waves as easily as 9'8 wide noses.  When the

offshores blow, the narrow noses really shine.  I can drop in where

most longboarders get blown out the back.  I have surfed this type

of board in overhead Indo and it works well up to XX OH.  Not a turning

design for hollow waves, but finds a good line.  In regular West Coast

surf it performs really well and is a point surf monster.  The bigger the

guy, the thicker I make them.  2 + 1 fin set-up works best.  Hope this helps!

if you can get one, skip fry makes longboards that work great, i have a 9’9 single fin that can ride in 2 foot to 12 foot

surfteach, those are very very nice.  how did you set the fins?

I think you need my O B Q, one board quiver.      Lankameese has one, in Florida.    Check his postings.   He has some photo's up.

Still love the concept of an OBQ. Can’t find any pics of it though only the Elua which I like.

Keep them coming Swaylockers as I’m paying attention and taking them all in.

I do…But, they also noseride really good if you want to.

Greg Tate:

2 + 1

Center Box at 7" up

Sides at 17.5" up

Sides in  1 3/8" from rail

4.5" fin base with 1/8" toe

Wide base 8" center fin, sides are 3.5" SBs.

Move the center up in the box for a looser feel,

back for more drive in bigger surf.

Do you have a rocker shot Teach?

SurfTeach, love it.  Up about 17 plus is how Davo use to set his big boards, too.  Makes a hugh difference.

This is a paddling machine !........I do them from 10' to 11' 8"....early take off smooth as...

A narrow nose isn’t always necessary to have a super loose performance longboard. I think the tail outline and fin set up have more to do with it. Rocker also.  One of the loosest I ever rode had a 19.5 nose and a 13 3/4 tail.  I also like small cutaway center fins moved almost in between the two front fins.

hey Cuttle , I done this one a few years back , the owner creased it in a recent swell at Snapper. The repair job is rock-solid with carbon fibre rails (under the blue pigment) and bit of extra deck strength....still a very tidy board in good nick...I just need to wet rub....maybe he wants to sell it.?...pm if your interested and I'll ask him.....

PS....it's high density eps & epoxy..

Cuttlefish,

I see you are from the Sunshine Coast. Sounds like maybe you are trying to deal with Noosa. Good Luck with that. Maybe go see Tom Wegner. He could make anything you might need. Last time I was there(during a major swell and a few days prior to Festival), I could not get out of there fast enough. I love the waves there…but mate, that was the most insane surf scene I have ever seen…

Seems like Kayu could have some solutions.

Howzit cuttlefish, I think you are looking for a fun gun board since they have the pointed nose and you see quite a few of them when the surf gets big in Hawaii. Thenoses on my longboards were not real wide since I  was not big on nose riding but liked to work the face of the wave a lot. I was more into off the lips and floaters and more progressive longboarding and loved my 2+1 boards more than single fins.To each his own when it comes to how you surf. Aloha,Kokua

Hi Proneman,

Actually I’m not too concerned about Noosa these days.

It’s my ordinary local point where the greedy dominate that I’m looking to even up the odds.

Accuse me of looking for a crutch as I don’t mind as those I’m competing against are already utilising said crutches albeit with wide noses that quite often they never go near anyway.

It’s a wide take off zone there so positioning isn’t as important as Noosa so local knowdledge only helps so much.

Kayu PM sent.

Kokua,

I’ve had the pleasure of owning a 9’ gun made by Michael Cundith (ex cali shaper- mate of Greenough’s) which was the fastest paddling board I’ve ever come across.

Too bad it needed waves the size we don’t get on the Sunshine coast to come into it’s own.

I was trying to find a good all rounder which doesn’t have a wide nose that serves no purpose for my riding style, adds unecessary swing weight, catches wind when blowing offshore/cross-shore and is hydronamically as efficent as possible for fast paddling.

Just doesn’t seem to be much around to be found easily.

Hence plumbing the resources of the Swaylocks crew because I know that quite a few on here like Ace and are making them.

Could this type of board be more sought after if shapers were putting them out as “models” or is the demand really just for noseriders?

Although I may be a bit too far away from you… But i’m pretty sure that any good local shaper can make you one, according to your specifications.
