the title says it all, list 3 surfers who you would love to shape a board for and why ? all shapers, backyard hacks to first timers to the pros.....
-
the little 13 year old grom in my town that’s got more style than his years, but his dad won’t let him get off the softy.
-
another guy who won’t ride anything but a chip, is a GREAT surfer, but would surf a lot bettter with the right board for when it’s small.
-
another local college kid who needs to be turned on to a fish, but won’t spend the money… cause he’s broke.
1.) Me
2.) Me
3.) Me
Hehe, i hardly know where to start for my boards, let alone someone else!.
Beerfan , you cannot shape for that guy because he's under my sponsorship already :)

I wanna shape boards for the guy that shapes my boards ...
I probably should give my 3 then ....
1 - Dane ( coz he is a freak and he rides some diff stuff but always pushing his equipment, I know a shaper could make alot of progress in design working close with Dane...but even one board would be cool.....
2 - Rasta- coz he rips and rides alot of semi-fish stuff which I shape alot of too, have actually chatted with him about riding a board and he was open to it, but he said he has heaps and heaps of boards already...but I'll try again, occasionally see him surfing round my area.....
3 - Ryan Birch- coz he is freak and right into riding everything and anything like me, and he is right into the finless stuff too.....
just missing out was MP ( fav all time surfer even though doesnt surf anymore ), Kong ( grew up watching him power gauge my local spots ), Occ , Archy..and KS....been lucky enough to make TC one already ...super stoked......
I have already checked off 2 of the three. Can’t wait to check off the third!!
1 - My son made it to the outside for the first time and I had promised him a board when he did it. Happy Grom with is new board last year. This was my first home made and he painted it.
2 - I have a friend that would only ride chippy HPSB’s, even in knee high slop. Was always complaining about it not working. Finally talked him to letting me shape him a diamond tail board similar to the Roberts White Diamond. Its now his new favorite board. Great feeling when someone that surfs great likes what you made for him.
3 - I have the same proposal for my youngest son. As soon as he gets to the outside on the surfboard, he is riding in the white water, I will make him his first custom. Can wait to check this one off.
cool stuff...I have made my son a few and its great and satisfying for sure.....and persuading mates to try something then when it works is a buzz too, I have been stoked to be able to open a few minds and get people off one type of shape ( usually hps ) and then some of them are riding everything and anything imaginable...... have so many ideas of what I wanna make for some mates and customers it rediculous, but they have got to be open to it unfortunately, have one mate who surfs really well but he can even consider riding anything besides a thruster HPS...he cant even imagine they might be fun or work well for him....I am not giving up, might steal his other boards and just leave him one, see how that goes for him...hahaha....
My brother, Sixto, Skipjack, the Beaver, Rock the Cock, Woody, Vern Buddy, Muggah, and Herb Spitzer. Oops, that’s more than 3. Sorry, pridemore. Mike
haha...i listed about 7 or 8 too......
hey Pridmore, which TC? yours or ours? =) both are legends who i'd be honored to shape a board for...
my boards are junk still but i'm hoping to knock a couple out for some friends soon.
1) my best friend since we were kids, Steve... amazing natural talent. he'll not surf for a couple years then, go out, comlain about the cold, and how tired his arms are and snag the best waves. not really radical but super smooth, stylish, and flowing... he always wants one of those 70's single fin guns but, after moving back to Oahu last year he snapped his last board a couple weeks ago. a 6'4" John Mel Potato chip opening day at Rocky Point. he said he couldn't really paddle the thing (it's chipped out. full on early '90's) and was constantly taking off under the lip. i figure he could use a shortboard with some volume cause he doesn't like to paddle (he's 5'5" and about 180). say 7'0" x 19 or 20 x 2 1/2 Quad with center box option. wide point slightly forward, thickness throughout but not too fat in the rail.
2) my buddy from work. ex-pro snowboarder, superpipe guy. sometimes struggles in the water, sometimes has moments of brilliance. he's 6'2" ish x 200 ish... i think he could use a 6'4" - 6'6" modern fish design. he's only getting in the water every few months now so he needs some extra volume but something that will still turn.
3) Me. i need a big wave board. having never owned a gun, i can't even remember how many times i've been undergunned on my 6'2" 's ... it's in the works. hopefully i can check this off soon enough 'cause, winter is almost here... originally i was looking at 8'0" but after receiving council from a guy that i respect that surfs around here when it's big, i'm thinking more like 7'2" ish minigun.
ours.....
nice! that's something to put on your resume for sure... i've read that lately he's been going finless?
not on anything of mine unfortunately but yeah, pretty stoked to make him a sled, done a few for his bro too, he really knows his boards and is great for feeback, meeting up with him next week to discuss number 3....should be fun, he'll be in town with 4 or 5 pros doing a board test, hoping to tag along and ride some diff stuff myself, and gunna slip a few of my shapes under a few pros feet, maybe even a finless if I can persuade the HPS crew to give it a go....but it'll be great just to see them surf my local breaks and get in the water with them, might even let my son miss a day off school....
COOL!
