I am looking for some good info, and I know you all have it. I want to start selling surfboards and I am curious to know what retail stores expect to make off of each board. Also what is the average wholesale price for a board? I know it probably depends on quality. I don’t want to charge too much, and I also want to make sure I’m not getting charged too much. Any info is good info to me so please hook me up. You can e-mail me with info if you would like, Thanks allot, Daniel

Markup is anywhere from $50-150 or more depending on location and brand name for shortboards. Cost, well again, brand and location. Figure at lest $250 for a “no name” shaper making you a “shop brand” board. Add your 50 to the price and there you go. Those big names are probably going for 350+ for shortboards but its been awhile since I was in retail. I am sure there are folks here dealing with the here and now dollars and cents.
I don’t mean to sound discouraging and I’m not trying to legitimize the overseas sweatshop thing… with new “name brand” wholesale boards contracted overseas complete with airbrush, FCS, etc going on E-Bay for under $200, you’re in for some tough competition. My hunch is that at least a few stateside retailers are pushing the same product with their own label for a few bucks more. In any kind of quantity, wholesale prices are below $150.
