Actually I'm still just one surgery shy...........

Makes one wonder why the Racoons always go to the Campsites where ResinHead hangs out........???????

I thought it was the glue smell from the 3M Tape........might be something else....strange Days........

Next year let's all go to Death Valley and Sand Board....ha haha.......

updated surf forecast… more moderate than the longer range predictions were… by this weekend its supposed to be 5-7 foot at 14 seconds.

Oh yeah, low tides are around 4 (am and pm) and the high tides are around 10 (am and pm).

Weekend air temps low around 52, high around 82, 10 knot breezes.

Looking good boys & girls… looking good…

Yah, 14 seconds sounds pretty good… =)

At least there will be waves.

Is anyone going to be there on thursday that can put some stuff in my campsite before 3pm?

I will be there a little late and I’ve heard that they might give away my site if I’m not there by 3…

Just got off the phone with the camp ground management…

Campfires OK this year.

Firewood will be for sale.

STOKED!

This AM around San Luis Obsipo had well overhead fairly long period clean swell. Sand Dollar may have been overexposed. As most of us know, anything over medium size there doesn’t hold shape very well.

Hoping not to put the whammy on it but the forecast is for a mixed medium period swell which could be nearly ideal.

Now you’ve done it John

I don’t know what you are talking about John.  Sand Dollar aways has good waves.  I have been to San Dollar twice in the past two years and the waves were always perfect.

Here is the description of Sand Dollar from Bank Wright’s 1973 Surfing California guide.

San Dollar Beach:  Powerful winter walls.  Starts working at two feet and never closes out.  Deep side channels provide safe access to peaks.  Massive rip currents.  Comment:  Reports of 25 foot peaks. . . smooth and ridable!

Bank is alway right.  =:)

I don’t know if you’re being facetious but considering when he did his research he was pretty spot on for most spots.  I still have mine from highschool (class of 79), all brown and tattered.

Last winter I surfed a spot I always considered a summer break on a winter swell and it was even better than in summer.  Later I looked at Bank’s description and he had it nailed.

Answer:

I think you ment to say sand Dollar beach closes out at anything over head high.  John is correct.

More:  There has been some question about the water quality, and the oveallr appearance of the beach.  On a poluted scale 1-10, sand dollar is a 8.3.....Obviously surf thare at you own risk.

Lets face it, poor water quality, suspect beach, local vibe, closes out anything over head high........Why surf there . It does have the long drive, out of the way award.

Well, it stinks too. So, it’s got that going for it.

I always liked Bank Wright's description of Westward Beach down there south of Zuma...

"Resembles 'Pipeline' but steeper."

Sandollar Beach is a mellow monster. Get it right it's mellow....

I've seen the monster!

Haven’t been to sand dollar in over ten years! If its manageable, I’ll surf. If not, I’ll listen to the rocks rolling in and out with the shorebreak. Love that sound.

"Resembles 'Pipeline' but steeper".

That is some funny stuff Mr. Mellor. It does get steep at that break, the bottom often drops out, but those are the only comparisons and the fact it is called the "pipe". Saw  R. Schmidt get an unreal barrel there not often seen on that stretch of coast. Have had some great sessions up and down that beach. But it sure ain't Hawaii. It breaks hollow, but not near the same push.

ps. It's mostly a sponge break now.

pp. Mary's/Pitas was only shoulder high yesterday, but as clean as it gets. God Bless Mr. Cantrell for the heads up.

I think he meant “Pipes” near Cardiff…

so whats the deal with food out there, does each site cook  a meal for every one or is it every man for him self cause i got alot of fish in my frezzer right now, so if you guys want to have a big fish fry let me know

oh and what is the water temp up there

Everyone pretty much fends for themselves for breakfast and lunch but dinner is more potluckish. Lets put it this way…I have never, ever wanted for food and end up throwing away or bringing home a lot of my stuff.  Beer or other spirits always buy a spot at the table!

water temps are usually cold enough for a 4/3 and booties… which also help on the rocky trail down to the beach…  bring some fish, somebody will grill it up or make fish tacos!
