Some early birds might be up there today. I’d ask for surf reports but if I remember correctly cell phone coverage is weak or non existant there…
Crap…
I can’t go now. I’m really bummed. I’ll be there next year. PM me if you want my spot. I have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night reserved.
I'm north of Pt Conception and the surf here is clean and headhigh+ on sets. Forecasted to drop a bit but it won't be flat. Clean conditions are a real possibility this time. Water temp in the sub 60s. Air temps are supposed to increase this weekend inland but that might not affect the coast as much.
headin’ out now!!! WOOHOO!
Bummed you can’t go Swied.
Take it easy, see you soon
Bummed for Swied and his kid all ready to debut his new board, yeah? Next year…
My car won’t be done until late Friday so camping that night is not going to happen for me. But I’ll likely stop by on Saturday mid-morning-ish. Do you guys hangout in the campground, at sand dollar, elsewhere? Will it be obvious when I roll through? -Rich
Yeah… he was bummed when we told him that the trip was off. For the record…I did finish the board, and my son did the Poska pen artwork. It looks pretty sweet. I’ll post pictures soon.
slim,
There’ll be people in the campground, on the beach, maybe checking some other spots all day. Just drive around and look for a bunch of unusual surfboards and you’re there. I’m packed and leaving after work Friday. Should get there around 500. Spot 24.
Home safe, thanks for a great trip everyone.
Chris,
Did you surf Willow on the way out?
Made it home to watch the beach pumping with a pretty sunset.
We could not see Willow but I chased a local guy to a new mysto spot or it may have been ResinH late to the party.
I remember telling someone that even though we were pretty much plagued by this persistent fogbank all weekend, it could be a different story 1/4 mile inland. This picture tells that story.
Here ya go Ben. Seriously, there will be plenty of pics I'm sure but much of the surfing was done in poor light conditions due to the fog. Today (Sunday) I saw some sketchy waves looming in out of the fog. No one else was out at that time and I chose not to go. That's OK. I got some yesterday and had a chance to hang out with some old and new friends.
It seemed like a really good group this year and there was plenty of evidence that underground tech lives.
Back at work, looking at pics. I took a bunch of photos. iphoto showed like150 photos getting imported but then only the last7 or 8 showed up on my screen. Sorry Chip. I can’t find all the others. I had some pics of everysurfer, chrisp and lavarat taking some big drops on the “ugly” afternoon. I’m impressed they were able to find some gems in all that rubble.
The drive home (south) showed some clean surf. John, I saw that mysto reef breaking, some reefs north of there looking fun too. Then Ventura and Malibu area had some fun “performance” surf, as opposed to Sand Dollar “grumblers.” Amazing what 100 miles will do to change conditions.
Good times as always, just too short…
well i made it back home on Sunday just in time for a sun set session, 3 to 5 foot sunset cliffs, vary clean and fun waves in my board shorts and my buddy turns to me and says “why do we ever leave San Diego ?”
i got a good laugh out of that one but i had a great time up there getting pounded in the cold water
it was great to meet all you guys and i am definitely looking forward to next year, i just need to figure out how to bring up more boards next time and how to make a out door hot water shower
It was tons of fun!
Ian,
I forgot already, what was the name of the Japanese pancake mix? I can’t stop thinking how good they were!
Nope. Couldn’t see it. Just lines of whitewater rolling out of the fog knockin’ the rocks around.
Probably the best surf I saw on the drive home was right out in front of the elephant seal beach, just before Hearst Castle. It looked really fun, but not sure about the 1000 seals lying on the sand.
When I stopped at Willow, I saw some waves, but wasn’t sure about the spot. There was some surf close to shore, and then something broke further out, and to the north.
The tourists there had the squirrels eating out of their hands. Take one home as a pet. The squirrel, not the tourist, but they were both pretty cute.
