Why did this happen? Epoxy whitening...?

For the plug setup on my hollow wood, I used a pipe sleeve threaded into my board with a fulsh cap. I suspected the plug leaking around the edges of the actual sleeve (where the insert meets the wood). So I re-epoxyed it. I put a good thick coat on the threads, screwed the insert back into the board and tried to let the excess feather out on its own. When it dried I took her for a quick ride before doing any sanding (When swell hits NY, there is no time for waiting…I’ll sand it next week we get back to our usual flatness). Anyway, when I got out of the water, I noticed the epoxy got white…What made this happen? Its from the same batch I used to glass the whole board and that went fine? It dried for almost two full days (in my basement…not optimal conditions, a bit cilly)…why did the white happen?

This is what it looked like before the repair…I since found out my fin is cracked at the base…I think thats how the water was getting in…

Water contamination, what you thought was dry wasn’t…it’s seeped out of the wood into the mix.

Won’t hurt it, just doesn’t look right…

I did it with my first HWS…

Yea, I figured that. I was so used to it drying within a couple hours at 85 degrees when I glassed the board…I thought that 2 days in my basement was plenty, but I guess the temp differance (probably 60-65 degrees) in the basement made a huge differance in the curing process.
