The sun melted the wax that bonded the feathers to my wings.
Until then, I had clasped the surfboard husks with my feet while maintaining airspeed velocity with the wings.
Knock on wood, I’ve done quite a bit of flying with boards and have only ever gotten fairly minor dings. The worst was a thumbnail sized dig into the rail of a board where the corner of another piece of luggage had hit the board. on a trip three years ago.
Just flew to Puerto Rico and back with five boards packed into two Pro-Lite wheeled coffin bags and there was no damage other than the $761 in board bag fees it cost.
Ouch! That is painful.
