Why the Locked Thread

Why the lock on the thread ‘A Case For Show’ by KCasey?

Please note, the question has been answered. It would be nice if the thread was left to die, or fade away.

(Edit, 10/06/06. A post which did not make it into locked thread, but in my opinion deserved to. KC)

From Rooster:

Hello KCasey,

Yes, I use Darwinism and Natural Selection interchangably when I’m speaking or writing"loosely." It was tongue in cheek. I think that everything that effects a population, roads with cars, hunters, strip malls, puts selection pressure on those populations. So, Yah, I guess turkeys that fly into speeding trucks might be an example of " Darwinistic Natural Selection." Dont’ know if she had ever reproduced, anyway. Mike

Reply from KCasey:

You’re right.

I guess there really isn’t anything you could call Un-natural Selection.

My apologies.

Kevin

My dad used to have wild turkeys on his property. They would come up to him and eat from his hand. They wouldn’t come near me at all.

I think calling someone a name might be the reason for the lock down. I do like the original story though, thanks.

Now ducks, on the other hand…

Non-surfing post, disagreement with same, abuse, insults traded, trainwreck, lockdown.

Standard operating procedures.

Want me to draw you a flow chart?

Kidding!

The matter has been explained to me.

As for whether or not it was a non-surfing post, yeah, I can understand why you (and others) would see it that way. No arguments here.

Kevin

I love locked threads.

Its common knowledge Kevin, that certain topics tend to “rock the boat” so to speak…

religion…

politics…

abortion…

and brave, street-crossing wild turkeys.

I thought EVERYONE knew this.

Please restrain yourself from further boat rockin’.

Thank you.

Now THAT is harsh- I hope the baby ducks were rescued- it’s not like we’re short of Mallards, but they are cute and who can dislike a duck? Much safer territory. To keep this surf related, last winter there were HUGE rafts of Scoters, which are a sort of sea duck, 10 yards of the beach at Santa Monica. My bird watching girlfriend was pretty stoked and the lifeguards got all protective and fatherly of ‘their’ ducks. Made the post rain/no swell dead period much more entertaining.

National Parks and Seashores are good places to observe wildlife w/o the intrusion of Man. You were lucky to have seen the scenario unfold, and to be validated by the Ranger, who was probably ready to write you a ticket if you hadn’t stopped to learn something.

You didn’t get a ticket there, but you got one here.

To all, I think I get it, … and thanks.

Kevin

I can’t understand why a turkey wouldn’t eat out of your hand, Mr Wanksalot. Beats me. That’s a headscratcher all right.

Somehow they figured out that he wasn’t a threat.

Cleaver critters - heard a lot of storeis of them doing very smart things. Things you’d never think an animal would figure out.
