Will a sticker over burn-through prevent seepage/waterlog?

Please don’t burn me at the stake for this.

So I reapired a nose ding on a new (used) PU board, I was overzealous on the sanding, and a few portions of weave (~3" total diameter) are now exposed. Not in plain view; only certain angles of direct light, if that makes a difference, but it is soft enough to squeeze in pressure dings. To be honest, I’m over it; I’ve had the board a week and it hasnt even seen water. There’s a swell coming in tomorrow, and I’d like to ride it, but I can’t afford to ruin this board and buy another.

So basically, acknowledging that it’s a band-aid, would a decal/sticker covering the spot and surrounding area prevent it from taking on water? If that’s a recipe for disaster, what is my next best move? Is it as simple as buying a resin and “painting” a layer over the exposed portions?

Thanks for any help.

No sticker, fix it with cloth and resin.

No sticker, fix it with cloth and resin.

Sticker will help but a coat of resin would be better for sure.

Beer fuel double post. Sorry.

A resin seal would be preferred.      Absent that, a sealing with multi coats of clear laquer, will keep water out for a few surfs.    When you sand it, to do a proper resin repair you will not have to worry about an incompatability with the laquer ‘‘band aid’’ as you would with enamel, if there is a residual left in the repair area.

My PU boards are held together with tape. Sometimes for years on end. Use good quality plastic or aluminium tape.

EPS another story.

How long does it take for resin to cure in the summer?

It's dead flat here. Good surf up in Utah right now??? Can't wait ? Brahhh

Stickers make you surf better…

Just use a few coats of 5% gloss acrylic clear from a spray can. It will seal the job no probs.

or use a full gloss if it a gloss finish board.

Thanks for the help and input; I never
considered lacquer or spray clear. I’m not at all opposed to the ghettoness of a
can of krylon if it fits my needs, but does the semigloss clear start to
yellow with prolonged exposure to saltwater? Does it need 24+ hours to settle like spray paint?

It’s
between that and resin that I can buy locally at this point, meaning
Bondo and Evercoat, and I’d rather sit on the beach and scratch my
neck than subject my board to the latter. Ideally I’ll find a place
selling a full repair kit, but so far the local shops only have Solarez and
the like.

Brah, Salt Lake is firing double overhead! Gotta hurry and show the LDS chicks my killer airs.

Haha nah, it’s the name of a detective in a documentary about SoCal bank robbers.

So, why not use Solarez? It seems you’re over-thinking what should be a simple solution.

“Documentary”?
WTF???

Sammy You didn’t Know that was real?  i was on the camera crew almost died at the botch drew raid. Nobody gives any credit to The Camra crew for have the hauvos to stand there filming while ak47 rounds are wizzing by your head.  The worse was I steped on a pop top and blew out my flip flop and had to find my way Home.

Did I ever tell you how nice of a guy Gary Busey is? He’s a much better surfer then when he was in That other Documentry Big ?? Monday No Thats not it.  You Know The one he made with Jan Michael Vincent?  Big, Big? Well anyway it was a great work of art about the fun and hijinks  of growing up poor in Malibu. Fighting your way out of ghetto and poverty, claiming the title of best surfer in the world.  Big Big? Big Hump Day! no wait Big Wednesday!

Yeah great films made it big at Sundance Film Festival.  More point waves on Lake Utah Then The Great Salt Lake less Sharky as well.  By The way some surf culture History whe Jan and Dean sang two girls for every boy they were singing about their stay on The Beach in utah and Have Polygamist wives hanging out in bikinis. Fun times

Yes Johnny Utah.........I get it..........can't wait 15 min for your hot coat to cure?

If it is soft enough to push in, it needs cloth.

And where is there a swell tomorrow?
