will epoxy without uv yellow if it is couloured in white?
Over time… Yes. But most boards are kept out of the Sun for most of the day. On the deck the wax will protect it and the bottom which is mostly out of the Sun during a session will yellow slower. The first to yellow will be the rail area not protected by wax and thusly exposed. I don’t see it as a problem. It would take years of disregard and or stupidity to visibly see the results. IE storing the board outside in the elements.
Just my 2 dollars worth.
Yes
wait..what do you mean colored in white? You mean pigmented white?
Are you drinking ‘Blond’ tonight. How else do you make resiin white?
Yes. pigmented in white. with tempera.
Yes. pigmented in white with tempera
Mouse, of course over time the resin will turn yellower. Who cares in time we will all be dead. Make the best of of it and build things accordingly. The stuff your working on today may be worth a fortune for someone in the future. Patinas on antique reveal qualities that didn’t exist or weren’t recognized when new. There are wants vs needs and the distance between the two can be called “cognitive dissonance;” anyhow, I like yellow boards, what good really is a white board?
GR, I had not thought of that. Some of my best boards are now yellow. Oldies.
Here is a data point for you, though. I have and older epoxy board that was dinged by a friend. He me coming in and decided that he should duck dive under me. He aimed short and poked a large hole in the bottom. I patched it with RR Quik Kick. The board was glassed with RR regular from a few years back and now fairly yellow. The patch now 2 years old (?) is clear non-yellowed. Antecdotal, I know. But true. The ones I have built in the last few years (all KK) are holding up pretty good.
GT, to say that RR isn’t getting better, and yellows less than the older versions would be a lie. GL really is a super-hero, who constantly works to improve his products. I wonder how much better the newest versions are? Furthermore he takes the time to talk to the plebes; never saw Grubby doing that; and as for all the clothed nobility (at Quick, Billabong, and the others) they fancy themselves above board builders, as well as some who run materials houses; that’s really gross and riduculous in my opinion. Greg is unique.
White pigment does help. I’ve seen some old demo boards with white pigment. I was very impressed. I started doing it myself.
I concur. Entropy prevails …
yeah, my old coda (Forstall) fish is blatantly yellow now. I don’t care. I’ve replaced both outside fin boxes (I eventually break all fin boxes out since I was 14) and it still rides like a champ.
…yes…answer= colour the epoxy with yellow.
