Will Wax Rise Without Styrene

Or is it styrene evaporating that pushes wax to the surface. Or does styrene simply relax surface tension enough so wax can rise through the surface of the resin?

Wax is liquefied in styrene. As styrene evaporates, wax comes back to its original form and stretches on top of resin as a film.

And make sure that your paraffin is dissolved in the surfacing agent. Chunkies are bad... liquid is good

in the old days,

 Ive heard

that the glassers would grate the parafin wax and add it straight to the resin.

I dont know if thats true, but I have done it (once, long ago) and it does work.

 anyone else?

Wow !!

deanbo came up with a good one, har har

Howzit ken, There was a time when finding SA as not that easy but I would just makemy own with parafin and styrene and that was all that could be done. Now a days you can buy a gallon of either SA or styrene for about $20+ dollars and that will last for a couple of months if you are doing enough boards a week. Aloha,Kokua

wax willnot rise in the resin without styrene.........period!!!!!!!!

infact it will sink causing you a hell's nightmare of delam.

oh ya...........the chem industry make a resin where the wax sinks..............it's called,"casting resin".

next!!!
