Windansea annual kick-off at Su Casa

I’d like to thank Bill Thrailkill for inviting me to the event…I’m sure there were a number of guys wondering who the punk kid was that Bill was talking to…lol

It was a great experience…tommorrow’s the Luau on the beach at Windansea…be there if you can and say hi.

Soon,I hope to see you Bill, as the honoree(if it hasn’t already happened). You have such a great spirit for surfing, and I think it should not go un-rewarded.

If you guys really want to be closer to the roots of the sport…this is your chance…show what you know !!!

Herb,

Thank you for the kind comments. It was a pleasure having you there. Don Hansen was there early, and left early, before you arrived. Don is in great shape, and looks twenty years younger than he is. The Honoree, Alan Nelson, commented to me that it was quite meaningful to him, that this was recognition by his peers, and not a ‘‘reader poll’’. In the year 2000 the ''Honoree" was big wave surfers, and big wave board builders. Waimea was the ‘‘common ground.’’ The picture on the T-Shirt that year was of Alan Nelson at Waimea. Those whose names also appeared on the shirt were: Buzzy Bent, Bobby Burns, Tommy Carlin, Pat Curren, Mike Diffenderfer, Billy Graham, Ron Hodge, George Lanning, Mike McDonough, Alan Nelson, Dean Perry, Chuck Quinn, Wally Robinson, Bill Thrailkill, Butch Van Artsdalen, Woody Brown, Del Cannon, David Cheney, Marty Darby, Jim Fisher, Chuck hasley, Bill Kemp, Wayne Land, Dick Lemke, Ricky Naish, Ronald Patterson, Mark Poitras, Grant Reynolds, Tiny Thomas, Bob Weinteer. Somehow Bob Simmons got left out. All of surfing should tip their hat to HIM. My best Aloha to your family.

Yeah Wife’s been busy, so therefore it been my pleasure to supervise my daughters.

My old daughter is on the edge of puberty and has been… at the least… a handful…basically starting fights with everyone,so I had to hold off any rewards that she might have gotten otherwise…too bad my younger daughter has to also pay the price as well, being that she really loves the water/ocean.

Being so close to home more and much less on the beach has not killed my spirit…actually,it has improved it.

You have a great week, Bill.

ps.Dempsey use to speak highly of Bob.
