wings on swallows...

My next project is a 6’0" fish style board that will of a set of wings and a swallow tail. Thinking about using the 6’2"C blank. Any suggestions on a different blank before I commit? Allowance is running low so I wanna make it count. And also, I know the glasser will probably add in a little extra cost since it will have a swallow tail, any suggestions on how i can make the board easier to glass for him? I want to avoid extra charges for clean up or stuff he may need to do to make it glassable. Or any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for all your guys’ help! - Brandon

Hey Brandon, nice board you posted. I’m not going to try and give you the last word on the 6’2" C but it may help. My impression is that this is an older blank that works well if you want a flat rockered, thicker style boards (and kneeboards). I chose to use it on a couple of retro style FISH shapes because of this characteristic. It has plenty of foam to work with, both for different rail shapes, variations in thickness, some rocker mods and the extra width in nose and tail that I was looking for. Look closely at the online info on the Clark blanks and choose the one that is closest to the board you are trying to shape, you can save time and end up with a stronger deck if you do. A note I made to myself was to remember to order the standard 1/12 Bass stringer instead of the 1/4 just to keep the extra work at a minimum when carving out that pesky deep swallow butt crack. Dimensions were 6’2" and followed the older Lis style template and foil. Good luck. Tom > My next project is a 6’0" fish style board that will of a set of > wings and a swallow tail. Tom - thanks for the response and great insight, the only reason I have looked towards the 6’2"C is that…well I wanted to go with the 6’0"R which is designed for fish shapes and mine was going to be 6’0" anyways. But my clarkfoam catalog has the board diagram showing that it yields 22 1/2 inches which is perfect, yet the foamez website shows a diagram for the 6’0"R only yielding to a 20 1/4 inch board which is way too skinny. Anyone know which one I will end up with if I go with foamez? Could there be a mistake?

Brandon: I’ve got the printed catalog on my lap right now. FoamEZ must have a typo on their stuff. 6’2" C- Bottom Length-6’3"5/8, Max Width-24 13/16", Max Thick.- 2 7/8" 6’0" R- Botoom Length-6’1", Max Width-22 3/16", Max Thick.- 2 3/4" Tom>>> Tom - thanks for the response and great insight, the only reason I have > looked towards the 6’2"C is that…well I wanted to go with the > 6’0"R which is designed for fish shapes and mine was going to be > 6’0" anyways. Brandon: i’ve used both blanks and found the 6’0"R fit the bill perfectly for a 6’0" semi fish. (13.5"nose 20"widepoint 15"tail 2.5"thickness) i ordered the blank with +1/4" tail rocker last 6" and +1/2"nose last 6". this is my favorite summer board yet. i found the 6’2"C too thick and old school but if you’re going for the retro deal(why?) it might be better.

The 6’7" Rawson makes a nice fish also. Have fun and keep us posted! Scott.

Thanks for all your guys’ help, I can’t wait to post the finished product! - Brandon
