How far in do you cut the wing on a wing (pun intended) on average. I was think of going up to 1". Is this going to be too much? I’m asking you guys who have experience with this type of design.
3/8" to 1/2". More than that would become too loose and slidey in the tail.
1" sounds too much to me, but I’m not sure there are any rules, I think it will depend on how much you want to bring the tail width in. they allow you to make a board wider in the middle without ingreasing the overall lenght and can act as an extra pivot point when initiating turns. (my crude understanding)
I’m working on a rusty pirrana at the moment, I’ve had a few in the past and the wing arrangement seems simmilar on all of them.
From memory there are 2 sets of wings about 3/16 deep and a shallow swallow tail, the first set coinsided with the trailing edge of the side fins, the second set coinsided with the trailing edge of the centre fin.
I could measure and take a picture when I get back to the shop if you want, of course if you only doing on set they may need to be deeper?
Hopefully someone with a little more knowlege than myself could correct me if I’m wrong?
I keep them between 1/2 to 3/4 inch, depending on how much I want to pull the tail. I use bigger wings for bigger waves.
Cheers to all the above. No more than 1/2" it is.
