winter boards

Hey I was just curious, generally how much thicker should you go for a winter board (shortboard)? Do you simply just go thicker or should it be a wider/fuller shape as well? It’s east coast, 4/3’s, 5/4’s fully hooded up, so i figure all the gear adds about 10 lbs. give or take. Thanks.

HS, I surf Jersey and generally stay within the same thickness/template range but bump up a couple of inches in the winter. I use a 6’6" fish and 6’7" 80’s style during the warmer months and then go to a 6’9" when the hood goes on. Herb Bean

10 lbs. fullysoaked your estimate is way off try 30-40lbs. extra weight, and decreased paddling ability due to lack of flexibility in the thicker suits.
