That is not a pulled in winter fish. That board needs two big keel fins. It's a small wave design and doesn't need a third fin to improve performance with two big keel fins. Pavel quads work very nicely on a board of that type and may make it a bit more user friendly in crappy conditions and/or when surfing backside. Mike
6’2" x 14 9/16" nose x 20 1/4" x 14 1/2" tail x 2 1/2 thick. 4.5" nose rocker; 2" tail rocker. 1/8" single concave from front through the fins. Fishy up front and step-up round pin out the back. I’m making a very similar, slightly beefier 6’3" right now for the cold/windy northeast winters.
Wow …I want that board!
???
Looks like a rounded square, to me.
So, you don’t want a fish, after all?
What kind of fin options would I have for this
type of board? Could this shape be a tri fin or would I have to change
the tail, …or would a quad hold better than a twin in larger surf. What I really would like is this shape ,in a mini squash ,with a standard tri-fin tail.Would this work?
Does a fish have to have a large swallow with twin keels?
Does a fish have to have a large swallow with twin keels?
Yes. Or it isn’t a fish. The fad of the last ten years where anything that’s wide and has a swallowtail is called a fish is bogus.
Quads? They fit the name, I suppose. But it’s my opinion that boards like that lost pictured above are NOT fishes.
I mean, what the hell do you think a fish is?
NONE of these boards are fishes.
This one is close, but not quite.
the whole concept of a fish being performance board is bogus. they go like crap unless its 2 foot onshore mush even then a modern board goes better. thats why we pull the tails and put three or 4 fins on. use the good stuff and discard the wankery
hand shaped and will see more barrels and doh surf then 99% of the fishes posted in this site. deep swallow tails suck. and trad fish tails are too wide with too low tail rocker to turn nicley and spin out in big surf. lots of folks wasting waves on traditional fishes cuz they dont make the drop and kook out . to forever loose any of the small amount of status they may have once had. i only ride a traditional fish when its knee high and no one out, so people dont think im a gay kook
actually all the boards posted have very fish like outlines all you have to do is put a bogus 17 inch wide butcrack tail on them and they would be identical to a traditional fish
OK, I coined it. Lets see some pictures of fish boards with pulled in tails just for shitz n’ gigglez. I want nothing to do with boards that have wide points behind center. To me ,these are designed for women who have wide hips and small upper bodies.I want that float so I can get into the waves. Then i want to surf it off the rail with the hold of a tri or maybe twinzer tail setup. Is anyone making these?
Do tell.
Ok let me clarify. If I’ve broken some secret anti-fish society wording I do apalogize. Lets see some “fish-nose” boards with pulled in tails. My whole point for this post was not to upset anyone about board steriotypes. I’m really interested in boards with wider noses ,center width pushed foreward ,and pulled in ,modern tails.Kinda like this one. It’s seen better days and is a bit on the thin side for me but I really dig it.

Fine. If that’s what you want then you should avoid the word “fish” because you only confuse the issue. It has nothing to do with a “secret society”. It’s simply knowing really basic surfboard terminology. Really, really basic stuff.
Alright Sammy. I wont use the F word anymore.
Here is the 6’3"x14 9/16"N x 20 1/4" x 14 1/2T x 2 5/8" under construction. 2lb EPS with Kwik Kick. 6 oz bottom w/4 oz extra around the fins; 6/4 top. Similar as the red one above. 4.5" nose rocker and 2" tail rocker; single concave. Trying the McKee setup on this one. The red one has the back fins more up and towards the rail. I’m 5’10" and 200 lbs. This replaces my normal 6’6" step-up. Gonna try my first gloss/polish on this one (it’s only my 5th self-made board) so wish me luck.
my fish with a pulled tail
Heres a few examples of fish type outlines, with pulled in tails. I find these more fun to ride than a wide tailed traditional fish unless the surf is really small under 2 foot.
like that pereimeter stringer one

Yup, not a performance board. Unless your Curran or Rastovich. Actually, a keeled fish really goes like crap in 2 foot onshore mush. In clean lined up 2 foot stuff to a couple of feet overhead stuff that type of wankery will go like a bat out of hell. Of course, your friends may still think your a gay kook so you are better off riding what everybody else is riding and keep trying to impress your mates with all the buckets of water you try to throw around on that mushy 2 foot wave.
