wood box fins

there have been some beautiful wood fins on here in the last few days, but what is the best way of making them fit in the box?

thanks

If you are talking about beautiful wood veneer fins, forget about trying to fit them into boxes. Waay too weak for that little support, you’d get fractures and delams easily. To support adaquately, you’d need minimum of 14 layers of fiberglass encasing the wood, and maybe some pins drilled up from the base.

OK, maybe a 1/8" wood core, surrounded by the best epoxy resin and fiberglass cloth, would work fine.

i make the fin with glass right to the bottom …then mould the bases using gp polyester resin ,milled fibre and rovings… you need quite a high fibre content to stop cracking…as you can see from the shade of my bases…

there plenty strong enough…

in this pic i have a fracture at the back of the tail box, from driving into shallow sand sideways and backwards at the end of the wave…

no cracks in the fin at all…
