Okay, I’ve studied the archives, the forums, resources, and perhaps the answer to my question stared me in the face and I missed it due to a Swaylockian stupor, but how thick should a keel fin be on a Lis-type Fish? I’ve seen that people use 3/4 inch ply, 9mm ply, 2 pieces of 1/2 inch sandwiched together, and I don’t have a wooden keel to hold in my hand, so please be kind and ignore my ignorance. Before and after the fin is glassed, how thick would it be? Also, any suggestions on the foil? Should the thickest part be slightly towards the leading edge from center, or what?
i like 1/2" 9 ply birch for mine. i think the general rule is to make the widepoint of the foil 30% from the leading edge.
Thank you! Quick response, too.
Hey, have you guys ever checked out superthick keels? There’s a guy here in SD who will occasionally use ~.75" thick fish keels: Scott Raymond Henry. They actually look kinda cool… if I remember correctly, they are foiled on both sides, but nearly flat on the medial (inside) side.
