wooden single fin project

yet another present… this time its for my girlfriend for the wooden board i made for her 30th earlier this year, its to save her nicking mine.

glued up cherry, lime and purpleheart, planed to thickness then foiled with this little plane…

and the fin…

i sealed it with resin today so monday i’ll scuff it up and then add some glass before spray finishing it.

sick fin, for the base will you drill a hole where the screw goes and the parallel mini bar at the front(not glass on fin)

yes Will thats the plan, i left enough wood both in front and behind as i cant decide which end to put the screw in.

i also have some roll pins which are the perfect size for the bar.

sooo nice!

makes me want to make one too…

keep on the nice work, waiting to see the finished fin.

It may be a bit thick at the back of the fin. We use a 7" sander to foil fins. Need to take away all that meat towards the back of the fin and blend it.

The wood work is nice. However it would be shame if it got glassed without the correct foil?

Just my dime store advice!

yep no worries surfding, that was a photo before i foiled it with the plane and a powerfile, im hoping to glass it today so ill post more photos later

my girlfriend Karen was so stoked to get the fin for christmas! below is a pic of it installed. the base sticks out slightly but i wanted to keep a nice chunk of wood for stregnth.

hopefully she can get it out over new year for a ride report!

thanks to all of you for all the help and stoke over the last year, especially Kensurf, Larry and Robin at probox and fasbaslardass!

hope you all have had a merry xmas and all the best for 2009!

dog

oh and ambrose!!!

Hey Dog, rightbakatcha!

That fin looks way sweet mate. Nice choice of woods.

Maybe this year a surf somewhere might happen? Never know!

Peace and good will to all.

you could have just glassed the base if you were worried about strength. Sweet looking fin, but all that work and it sticks out like that??? REalllyyyy???

Measure and slice off the bottom and make it flush…come on now.

Just my $.02

i can see what ur saying… i just put 2 of my other fins in and they both stick up a fair bit too, i guess when i installed the box i set it too high up.

im going to ponder this one…
