hi, i like seeing other peoples boards so in response to chris to post some more pics of the bonzer here are some more ,
the board is 1 lb eps core , veneer of cherry, ash and a darker cherry stringer detail on the bottom , 2 oz glass inside and 6 outside , 15 mm balsa rails,
the deck is 2 mm balsa with an inlay of balsa offcuts for the stringer detail, 4 oz under and 6 over with a 2 oz deck patch , 7ft 6 x 20 14 weight around 9 1/2 lb ,
i have made quite a few of these type boards over the years since burts original thread and sort of settled on this type of build now with the vennered bottom ,really just for looks , the deck balsa is a bit easier to conform to the compound curves as well ,
the other thing i have gone back to is just plain hand laminating , the very first board i made i vaccummed the whole of the glass in one go , then i went through a phaze of preforming the top and bottom skins first and just glassing the rails after ,blending it all in and final coating the whole lot ,i think they are stronger that way but in all cases you end up with cosmetic issues somewhere or other so in the end hand lam for me is the best ,
i also have tried loads of epoxies and have found one that i can get just up the road , its a low viscosity one and it does/nt hold bubbles so easily so my lams have got a lot better especially over darker wood ,
saying that this board was lammed with an epoxy with a slight amber tint , i have searched all over for clear epoxy and i only use the amber stuff for the inside but did the outside with it for this one and the amber tint has really lifted the wood colours,
the side fins are cherry and ash sandwhiched onto balsa and the foiled and glassed , they came out really strong and light , pete
