Mine took a dump on me. Looking for an unmodified hitachi planer. I’m located in San Diego
So you have been using an Unmodified Hitachi? Or are you intending to modify one yourself? Amazing how hard to find these planers are becoming. Your best hope is to find one that a shaper never got around to converting. If you buy one that a shaper has been using regularly, it won’t have much life left in it. Brushes and bearings for sure. Back about 2007 I bought one for $59 at Lowe’s in Kahului, Maui. I had a bet with a local blow hard down at the Cove that I could buy one for that. When I showed him the planer, case and sales receipt, he begrudgingly paid up.
What made the planer stop working? Maybe you just need to replace the trigger? If you waited too long to replace the brushes, you could have killed the motor but you would have noticed a ton of sparking before that happened. If you killed the motor they can be rebuilt here: https://eurtonelectric.com but it would probably be cheaper to buy the stock planer on Ebay and swap the motors.
