Yater balsa/abalone inlay...

Yesterday I stopped in at Beach House in S.B. and saw a beautiful Yater balsa with abalone inlaid panels and abalone inlaid fin. I assume a wall hanger as it was too nice (and probably too expensive) to risk a ding while riding it. Have no idea how he does the inlays but it was a masterpiece.

Hey John , Kevin Ancell does the inlays for Renny Kevin is a surfer artist from SF. He also did the Hula girl at the beachouse. I think he uses abalam a super thin abalone made for inlay work on guitars. I have gotten some good waves in your neck of the woods as of late.Hows your balsa work?Aloha KP.

I thought it was Dick Keating from Pacifica that did the abolne inlay but I could be wrong.

Like this?

saw one a month ago in longboard house in indialantic florida for 25 grand. yeah a little expensive id say. im not even sure if ur biggest colocter would buy it, seems stupid.

Yes, just like that. Photos don’t begin to do it justice. After checking it out, it may be “Paua” not abalone. Is that your board Papa?

Abalone & mother of pearl. Some of the boards around here that are done that way have gone for $10,000.00. Then again, it’s a long way to Florida. The glass jobs are fantastic. Tony Channin, is it precision fiberglass? Nice!! How do they make up the difference w/ the thickness displacement?

Check this little verigated gold leaf jellyfish. Everyone should have a little mother-of-pearl and gold leaf on their boards.

Nope I’m pretty sure that’s Kevin in Pacifica that’s doing those with Renny.
