when i moved into my current house about 5 years ago there was an old Shane Wave Ski left by the previous owners… after about a year of tripping over it i finally took it out at this wave that is hardley ever surfed infront of my house… this past spring i made it out of two tubes on it… it is about completly broken now and i am actually starting to worrie about how to replace it… it is just so much fun to ride when you want to go in the waves but don’t feel like surfing, and is is soooooo much fun to pretend to be a kook on it infront of "cool’ surfers… sometimes when surfer friends come to visit we borrow a second one from the guy nextdoor to me and more often then not we end up in pain from laughing so hard…

Once, many many years ago Randy Rarick put on a contest for goat boats at Sunset Pt. For some reason one day, about 6 of the skis were practicing at my homebreak on the south shore. The waves were small, maybe a foot overhead on the sets, but it was very glassy and pretty nicely lined up. These guys were complete assholes, being really aggro. Everyone was getting pretty pissed, when Leonard Drago and Kalani McCeague paddled out on their longboards. The surfskiers were too f**king stupid to realize that it was time to cool it. Eventually Kalani grabbed one of their paddles and started beating the guy over the head with it (it was well deserved, trust me) and then sent all of them in. I was never so glad to have those sociopaths out surfing with me.

[usually , it’s the goatboaters ineptness that means us boardriders have to avoid getting their paddles in OUR heads , as they paddle two foot away from you and proceed to drop in …unbelievable …butt thrusters]

i got a friend who does it actually… great guy
i explained to him the rules .
he kinda hangs to the outside and picks off what he can or cruises where theres no crowd .
i wished they were all like that
im not bagging the craft
its just that for some reason whenever i come across one i get dropped in on or nearly hit with a paddle or run over…
