Yep, another delam question

I’m pretty comfortable fixing dings, have a garage full of tools, dig DIY projects,  and have used this site, youTube, and other sites to get a good base of knowledge.  I’m in the process of reviving a 6’3" fish and have found three delams.  I cut out the glass using a Dremel and a cutting wheel, the glass easily came off with a little help from a blade, blew the dust off and seems to be OK, and need to sand some of the foam so that it’s even.  I still need to sand the edges to further the prep process and have purchased some red Fiberglass Hawaii tint to color match (I know it won’t be perfect and will be my first pass at color matching).

So the questions that I have are:

  1. should I cut the remaining glass on the rear of deck as there are two delams (the glass in between is solid between) and do one big repair versus the two separate rear foot repairs? I drew white lines on the picture if I didn’t articulate correctly.

  2. was planning on using a combo of 6oz plus two 4oz layers of fiberglass?

  3. do I add the tint to the resin when I lay down the first layer of fiberglass or on top of all three layers of fiberglass?

Thanks!

Do two repairs.

Add tint to resin with first layer of glass. I bet a completely different color would look pretty cool too

Do you know what is causing the delam?  Is that EPS foam?  You might be having a heating problem and the blank can’t breath.  Perhaps a vent could be used to prvent future delams if the blank is EPS.

My two cents.

Don’t forget to grind some of the surrounding glass. I can see you didn’t at least at the time of the photo. The new glass needs to be able to stick to the old glass. Good luck!

You need to feather the edges of the repair areas before you lay down any glass.  I’d feather out at least 2" around each of those areas you’ve cut out…actually I would have done that with the sander as part of removing the old glass.  Now you’re going to have a hard time doing it without eating up the foam.
