Yet another epoxy question....

I realize this answer is somewhere in Archives cyber storage but I can’t find it and I’m running out of time. Responses and/or links are greatly appreciated.

Here it is: I finished the lam job on my board yesterday. I can set the fins and hotcoat tomorrow which approx 48 hours later. Do I need to sand and use denatured alcohol on the lam before hotcoating or will sanding be sufficient?

Thanks for your patience.

Never mind, I found it. Sand lightly, blow off dust and wipe down with denatured alcohol. Beautiful!

Relax, the answer is why bother?

No need to sand or alcohol a lam job done with lam resin. Even epoxy, no need, if it’s still clean.

Now if you pooled tons of resin on, that’s a different story, but why?

Lee,

If your not using Additive F then it’s a good idea to clean the surface before the hot coat. Blush is an issue with epoxies, especially when it’s cold and/or damp and if not cleaned off can cause seperation between layers of resin. Add F eliminates the blush so that is one solution. Sanding and/or cleaning the blush off is the other.
