Hey Simon,
Nice symbol whats the orgin of it? Herb
I only surf on the days that end w/ the letter “Y”
It’s a celtic symbol.
Coque.
PS: Herb did you get my email about the superchargers some time ago?
Its called a triskel, it means two things.
The Celts believed (quite rightly) that everything was connected, the main elements being earth, sea and sky. All three were eternal. This can be seen as the spiral attachment from Coque.
Then the Christians had to go and convert us happy heathens.
Taking the idea of three in one, the trinity of Father, Son and Holy Ghost they had to explain this concept, hence the Shamrock being the symbol of Ireland, Patrick used it to illustrate the trinity, one plant, three leaves.
The Triskel also represents god, a circle, with no beginning and no end, that was folded into three but still unbroken.
I chose this symbol for my website, surfingireland.net, to represent the unity of Irish Surfers and surfers around the world that despite our differences of ability creed colour or belief, regardless of whether we get on at a personal level or not, that we all share this special thing called surfing
I also like the way it represents the link between the heavens, the oceans and the shore, the three elements that give us waves.
Not to be too poetic about it, it looked great and I have it tatooed on by body.
As an aside The celts worshipped the sun, and had disks made of stones all over the place, co the Christians went around carving Cross’on the discs, this is the basis of the celtic cross.
Thanks for the compliment by the way.
And after all of that soulfull writing to try and educate you bunch, not one comment or view, dont I feel stupid, bloody colonials.
thanks for the soulfull description. don’t feel stupid. it’s quite a beautiful piece of symbolism. we are just a helpless bunch of colonials.
I have seen that design on Antique Irish furniture.Usually carved in Relief. Thanks for the info. RB
Appreciate the education…don’t feel bad…we are a thankless lot…
Yep Simon…surfing seems like a celtic thing to do… water figures largely in our bardic heritage… kinda suits our unambitious happy go lucky live for the moment mentality.
Cool Simon,
Thanks for the rundown,I’ll keep that one under my “Symbols” category for safe keeping.
I love my creator,my Father…but,
