The bigger halfpipe at the park is a big guy - 16’ wide by 12’ high with nice bottom transitions but a funky vert/oververt thing going on in the last 18" or so… one skater told me that it was designed by a bmx designer. Usually I just carve on that one. There’s a nice spot at the 8 or 9 foot mark that I really like. I’ll freely admit cowardice, but dropping into that oververt section makes my knees wobble and I get visions of long hospital stays. Not my thing.
Anyway, fortunately I’m usually catching up on the coping on the 5’ bowl or the 6’ half pipe - hence my still skating.
Tons of respect for the guys who are pulling airs and such, especially on the bigger stuff. A 42 year-old was there a few days ago, and said he was back into it after about 15 years off - looked like he hadn’t missed a beat and was pulling these sweet old-school handplants on the big ramp. Damn, I was impressed.
it's an enormous height of air , for sure chris miller ...what a stylist
I hope he is still ripping
bob biniak , stacy , jay , and yes tony alva , and steve alba ...
warren bolster's shots of them in full pipes , along with wally inouye [he is on facebook , still ripping , evidently!]
....they were my inspiration , when I was the age in the cutty photo
my mate doug ironside , across the road from me , a great surfer and skater , left me for dead in the departments of style , courage , speed , on walls and banks [not many bowls / skateparks here in '74 / 75 !]
post up any skating shots of yourselves here , please guys ! surf skate ...yewwww !
Wow, thanks a lot for the inspiration guys! I used to skate a lot from my childhood until my early 20’s, I am 34 now and only use my sector 9 longboard to cruise down some mellow hills and check the surf. You guys have inspired me to go get one of those 80’s - early 90’s shapes I used to ride and start doing some grinds and ollies again! I can almost hear my mom telling me “skateboarding is not for grown ups”… I will show her your pictures jejeje!
Thanks a lot for the inspiration and keep on shredin!
