Anyone interested in such a product? This stuff is super tough. Most suited to bagging, IMO. I’d use 4oz under, with 2oz glass over, for one hellish tough and strong shell. Bagged, of course. I did a board with it once, the old fashioned way, and it was a chore. Make the case as to why I should tell you about it. The best presentation will get the prize. I’ve also used it for underlayment on glass-on fins. You do not want to sand this stuff. It’s too tough. I found that out the hard way. Lays up clear as glass. Did I mention how strong it is?
“Make the case as to why I should tell you about it.”
Because deep down inside, you really love us. ;-). Either that or its a slow weekend, and we can all get a laugh from the guy who’s going to post that he did it first, or the guy who will post endless google references about it, or the guy who posts he was thinking about it already got his next build that never seems to get built. I’m personally hoping you do post it for the first reason. Thanks in advance!
MAYBE you shouldn’t tell all of us. MAYBE a good way to handle it is to share it with some actual Sways participants (not visitors) and wait to see how the test panels and boards turn out. MAYBE we should just refer to it as T-Cloth for the time being and submit the observations that result from the people who work with it through a single poster, whether it’s you or someone else of your choosing. You know, to redact any specific identifiers from their comments that they might inadvertently include.
With a more limited release you can solicit some beta testing and feedback without inadvertantly giving the tech directly to the offshore “straight-to-container-exporters” and before any of the custom guys have a chance to work with it.
MAYBE you shouldn’t even share it at all with the amateurs (like me) at this point, leastwise until a few of the pros here take their swing at it.
Gdaddy is sadly probably right.
Shit Bill, I was using that stuff back in 1969.
@ Gdaddy: Do you do vac bagging?
Give some to Keith or Jay
Keith pumps boards out monthly
Their word is gold for me
better yet
let George play with some over at PlusOne
the analytics would be awesome
@ Oneula: Good call about George. I hope he asks about it.
Respectivly John, you couldn’t have. It didn’t hit the USA, until 1971. (yes, I know you were jesting.)
I was actually going to drop George Gall’s name except that I don’t know him and didn’t want to get caught being too presumptuous.
And Bill, to answer your question, I’ve done a number of veneers and such under vacuum but have only done a handful of wet lams under vacuum (got one going right now with the last of the innegra I bought a couple years back). You know what they say about fools going where angels fear to tread…I am that fool.
@ Gdaddy: Got it.
@ Everysurfer: PM sent.
Bill, were you seing Ploy Resin or an Epoxy resin with this cloth?
Artz,
The board I did with it was hand lam Poly, with a cut lap. Actually wore out several razor blades getting it cut. Did free lap on the second side. That experience convinces me that Vac Bag is the way to go. And Epoxy will be that much stronger.
Thanks Bill.
Thanks Bill.
Thanks Bill.
Why should you share it with us?
You are the seer, sage, soothsayer. Then again if you don’t want to share, you can keep it on Funk and Wagnals porch.
You’ve been messing around with that cursed unobtainium stuff, haven’t you?
Another cryptic post. All of the minions raise their hands. Me! Me! Me! While Bill watches from the comfort of his living room occasionally licking his fingers and rubbing his nipples in alternating clockwise and counterclockwise motions.
