Well…My family…after years of seeing there dad/husband running around the house printing information, reading for hours a days, preaching the gospel of Swaylocks, the whole family took heart in my"dream noserider".My 13 and 10 year old sons and my wife became my go to glassing crew when it came time to tackle the 10 oz Volan(x 2) glassing schedule. My 13 years old has helped me on boards #3 , #4, and now #5 and is becoming addicted to the process. Any way…i thought id share some pics of the process which beget one of the best boards ive ever had underneath my feet. Thanks to the masters board builders past to present, and a golf clap for all that have be kind enough to share there knowledge andpostive energy in this world wide family machine called swaylocks.
Wooohhh!!! Looks like A LOT of “V”… I bet it must turn quite good for a 10’8", eh?
fantastic getting the family involved.
your building quality in more ways than one.
congrats!

Thanks guys. Yep there alot of bottom roll, and the decks crowned ever more. The thickness was kept at 4 1/2" combined with thinner 50/50 rails created a very rolled top and bottom. Its total power steering.
GREAT STUFF!!!
i love the pic with all three of you around the board wearing your respirators…awesome!
Brandon…That was a cool moment because he was showing mom the proper way to work the sqeegee before we got started.Hes better than me i think. Catches on real quick. Fun experience. There addicted.
Wow. That’s awesome… the whole family. My dad built a boat once and glassed it. My Grandpa was a chemical engineer. They both gave me their advice on glassing my boards when I was a young kid. That inspired me to follow my dream of building boards. They both show an interest in my progress, even today. My Grandpa is now in his late 80’s, and he’s continually asking me if I’m wearing my respirator and changing my filters. Keep it up and your kids will be great board builders one day… heck… what am I talking about… they already are!
Kawika…Thanks for the kind words as your story is inspirational. The pride and joy in creating something that they can be apart of and surf one day is a total high. Nothing comes close to that high other waking them up on a Sunday morning at 4:00am and driving 2 1/2 hours south to Cape Hatteras and paddling out for a surf by the lighthouse watching the sunrise.
that’s so cool, man…i can’t wait 'til i sprout up some little humans. it’s gonna be SOOO fun teaching 'em to surf and shape and be groovy!!!
and you REALLY love that fin template, don’t ya!..it’s so great on those big ol’ logs!!!
stoked, always…

I have no doubt my friend that your children will ba master board builders before they are 10 years old. Goovy as hell.
Yeah that fin your turned me on to back when i did my 10’ 6" log has proven to be money. Ive tried other fins on the 10’ 6" but come running to the beach to change back to the 11 fin. Good Call!!! Its all I’ll ever used on my longboards.
Fantastic stuff Mudy!!!
It’s great to get the family involved, my wife and 3 girls now have a better idea of what it’s like to build a board, none of this “Mens stuff in the shed” anymore…
And your board turned out really well, can you post some rocker shots and top and bottom shots for us, that would be great…
BTW, I noticed your son was eye level with the board, get him some safety specs as well…don’t want anything splashing into his eyes…
Top job…
mudy, that is one sweet looking log .I know the wife&kids had a blast. cant what to see the 10’ 6" in the surf. your surf&shaping bud s.a.m surf
…that family stoke is very nice!
stuff that surf megacorporations try to kill…
by the way, you have a fine gloss coat there man.
mudybech: your log looks sweet. such a good finish & i like the hatchet style fin, upright & right on the tail, perfect.
& it’s awesome to see your kids getting involved. my dad taught me to shape & glass as a grom, i can’t wait to pass the gift on to my kids in the future.
good on you mate. i hope you can post pics of you & the kids riding it one day. happy surfing.
One thing…get full face masks for everyone. Eyes are like sieves for fumes…mahalo
Fantastically polished!!!
I wish someone had tought me to build a surfboard as you do with your whole family.
I had to go trough the trial+error way…
