hey guys I just started a 6,6 fun board for beach break near by was planning to have it as my waist to head high wave board.
This board will be my 1st resin swirl tint. i keeped a good bit of foam in the blank as i want it to float well.planning full/boxy rails with single to double concave. thruster set up
dims are 6,6 - 20 3/8 - 2 3/4 1foot down from nose 15 wide 1 foot up from tail 14 3/4
rocker is 3 3/4 nose , 1 7/8 tail 1foot up from tail 3/4 . 1 foot down from nose 1 3/8
entry point of tail rocker ( apex of tail and nose rocker) = 2 inch ahead of center was planning to start single concave at this point and have about 18 inches long blending into the double at the fins
blank has outline cut and is foiled ready for rail bands i was thinking of trying this wide rounded sqaure tail it is kind of wider than i was thinking but it helps keep shape i want with the length i was thinking about making it a round tail right now its about 6 1/4 wide
what do you guys think i would be keen for imput before i get past the point of adjusting. any advice would be great hey heres a few pics
One of my upcoming builds will be something very similar , inspired by those curvy , pulled in tail liittle fish that Rasta rides - hence the swallow idea.
I see another blank in the corner - really got the bug havn’t ya ? Cool !
hi guys heres a pic of all masked up ready for glassing and of the bottom of board after glassing. I used a slighty blacktinted clear base and added lots of white and a little black for the swirl
Sorry I didnt get back to you sooner, too busy surfing! The boards looking great and I love the swirl. Brave for your first one but you look to have pulled it off in style.
Have you considered a five fin setup for this one. that wide tail is screaming out quad to me!
You must have added a truckload of white, can hardly make out the stringer!
Hey mate, great looking board. In this pic, it looks like you have added another coat over the wrapped lap, is that right?? Is that so you can sand the lam down flat??. Curious, as that makes a lot of sense to me, i might pinch that idea if so hehe.
Keep it up. I like funboards, dont tell the hardcore shortboarders though :)
glassed deck almost ready for hotcoat, deck glassing went ok.
but I got a few small air bubbles in the lam so a gutted but guess thats all part of learning. I think the resin was a bit thick, i had the most trouble where the deck patch was. i was real careful not to squeege to much resin out. but it was pretty cold and the resin was pretty think maybe i should of thinned it with acertone. what you guys think?
Ya, sometimes getting the resin through 2 layers of glass can leave air spots
usualy you see them after it sets and they are hard to refill so its best to leave them
sometimes if you look hard as its gelling up you can spot them and push some thinned resin in to fill them.
you will eventualy learn the tricks and all things to look for, and when to look!
hey guys i am about to set the fin plugs on this board. Right now i am only planning to set up as a thruster, but i think down the line i may add some fins and try it as a quad.
I was wondering if this set up would work with the "wide" tail i have on this board:
center fin 3 1/2 up
side fins 11 3/4 up , 1 1/4 from rail with 3/16 toe 4 deg cant
when i add tailer fins will be 6 1/2 up 1 1/4 rail 1/8 toe (i still not sure on the cant any advice)
hey i was planning to do the pin line before the top lam, but i ended up doing it after the lam before the hotcoat. got the idea from another thread on here but i found that the baste coat did not sand easy enough to get a nice smooth surface for the pin line ( no wax added to baste). so i had 2 very small sand thoughs in the deck hot coat were pin was so thats the touch ups i was taking about. pin lines done with posca marker
i used a wall paper seam roller to push the edge of the cut lap down into foam befor the baste and it work great to blend the lap in before top lam ( also got idea off any other thread) this was my 1st cutlap and i think that i will use the roller and baste on all my laps instead of free lapping use was so much easier than sanding laps flat
you are right about the airbushing... was way harder than i thought gives me more respect for the pros how do it thanks for the postive coments on my amature try at airbushing
hey guys i just used water based craft paint on the airbrushing and was planning to seal with clear laquer. i not sure if this is the normal way when airbrushing after hotcoat.? what you guys think will i have trouble with this method?
Howzit twisted, Rail over sprays can be one of the hardest to do since all it takes is a little flinch and oops, you have to have a very steady hand to do them.Aloha,Kokua
