7’ close to 23’’ wide. wide tail. Going to Oz. Shaped by Greg Pautsch. Rolled belly in the bottom with flatter spot in the middle but with more edges on the rails for to add a touch of positive to the otherwise neutral board. Single fin. Will be Yellow tint with Spitfire. This is a longer version of the Fat Bastard.
I had an Astron Zot and I was like yourself in trying other fins to make the board perform how I wanted. What I found was that fins with some base (gullwing was under 4") gave it the drive I wanted ,but only added to the stiffness of the boards performance in other areas.
I think the gullwing is the best compromise but not the best fin. The steadfast refusal to alter the rails dictated the gullwing fin which has a passive sort of performance to it (fin base again). Horizontal fin flex and cavitation don’t count for much when the lip is going to drive you into the sand like a nail.
I have found boards with too much hip aft of centre to be a little slower than a more balanced plan shape also, but that is only my opinion.
Its good marketing to design a board where you have to accessorize with that designer’s products to make it work though…
Cuttle - Thanks for the fin offer; I will be sure to take you up on that one of these days. I swapped out the wavegrinder recently; while I found this fin OK - sure paddled well and the board was very fast with it - i found it lacked a little in terms of hold, this is probably due to the fat arse on the ZOT rather than a fin problem.
Peter White - the shaper at Classic malibu - a real old school guy who knows his stuff, took a look at the ZOT when I had a repair done there, and insisted it needed a bigger fin due the the size of the ZOT arse. I wanted a 7 or 8 inch fin (thought the rule was one inch per foot - and the ZOT is 6' 8"; but decided to follow his advice and got the big 9 inch fin). I have had a 9 inch dolphin fin on for a little while and am enjoying this. Its much better when there is a bit of size and just holds the line on the drop in and bottom turn sensationally. However I dont think It will be as fun in small dribble (which is sure to make a return...). Cuttle has your new DVS wiener arrived? Review?
Mono -pls be sure to give us a review of the Fat Bastard when she comes - OG
Thats my board board, and fuck you for your shitty comment you suck hole McCoy sycofantic producer of non authentic McCoy rippoffs and get fucked while your at it.!

Mono , the post was just an observation, not an inference that you copied, and since Ive worked on McCoys I am quite familiar with the distinctive curves . In any case , the influence is quite obvious.
Eat shit Surfoils , you should be knighted for your services to boredom. I wanted an authentic Horan surfboard, not an annexed copy of someone elses work. I already have a couple of McCoys that dont work as well as they would with more modern rails etc.
Kayu, I know your on the pay roll so thats what your expected to say, and you do make nice boards with McCoy Logo's on them.
One of Greg Pautsch’s quotes: Everything I know about surfboard building I learned from Geoff McCoy. Greg is a great shaper in his own right now, but his style should look similar to McCoy as he was Geoff’s pupil. This one should have a few different things on it. Slightly less neutral. Cheyne didn’t ride totally neutral boards when he went out on his own. This one is taken from the board we call the fat BSD, but it’s hard to get the same stubby look at 7’0’'. It’s hard to see the really excellent glass job Dan Taylor put on it along with nice yellow tint. Hi Mono. Hope all is well with you. Will be ready to ship shortly and I’ll be in touch. Hope is works well for you.
I didn’t take it that way. Unfortunately…That subject is touchy around here as you know. I think Mono wanted to enjoy his board for it’s own uniqueness and have it discussed for it’s own merits. Not speaking for him but that is what I gathered. There are a few really good shapers out there. Most of them were the pupils of other good shapers. Our surfing world is very small.
