ACE AGUAZAR DEC.9th Greg Loehr is going to be my first..........

Ok you know who you are! Now is your chance to “planer up” I am putting together a “Surf swap meet aquatic bazaar…AQUAZAR” first one Dec. 9 2007 In Ocean Beach. Part of the deal is letting guest shapers show their stuff. I have a “fish bowl” shaping room that allows people to watch me shape and i would like to invite other shapers to show their stuff. The surf industry has gotten so far from its “roots” that people don’t realize that surfboards are still a handmade functional art form.

This is not a competition and you WILL NOT BE PAID {if someone wants to buy your shape thats your business}. Anyone interested should contact me directly.

Any blank donations will be accepted and acknowledged.

I have contacted a couple of my “old timer” friends that may be interested but do not want their name being used to to “promote” something. I respect that and if you do not want your name mentioned thats OK, well just tell people what they missed after it happened.

This is a open invitation to any QUALIFIED shapers, do not say you were not invited cause you were. I hope to do this once a month with a MAX of 2 shapers per event.

Also any “swaylocker’s” who would like to show off your latest creations are invited to bring em down we will give you your own section.

THAT is fing COOL!

If this got popular from town to surfing town, is something that could

stop China invade surfingboards!

Surfboard bazaar and swapmeet in your town now!

Ace, Your event is a great idea and I am honored you invited me. I will bring a few surprises and if you can try to have one of your boards laminated and hot coated only. I would be happy to do a install demo for some of the people who are there at that time. Looking forward to see some Swaylockians there. Mahalo,Larry

I don’t know if I will have a board ready, but if someone from Swaylocks wants to bring one will that work? Any volunteers??

Any board will work. I will bring my install stuff just in case. If no board I will show and tell the best I can, no worries Easy! Mahalo,Larry

Thats my plan.........

bump … you should have had 1000 views, if not replies, by now… holiday weekend… maybe change the thread title to say what it’s about?

Actually, it might be a good idea if the MOD’S would allow this thread to be a STICKY, until the event date.

Good thought, Bill

What say you, mods?

Promote homegrown surfcraft.

Works for local agriculture all over the place.

Soooo excited, and in my own town too? Ace, thanks for starting this in advance. I really enjoyed watching the shapers at sacred craft, and can only image how much better and more personable this can be. And if any of the invited shapers want to do a refurbishment example of a 5’ twin fin into a 4’6 nee-board pm me.

disclamer; With all respect to Greenough, i do not nee-board.

Sincerely,

Enzyme surfboards

This is a really great idea…keep the hand in handcrafted. Thank god no one can drag their #THX S60000000 CNC to your fishtank. Yes, shaping can be art, if you’re not a butcher or hacker.

One of the neat programs that are being deveolped along the lines of your thinking is being offered by Ice Nine (the MDI cane based blanks)…they have made some blanks available to folks that can work with schools to put on a ‘shop class’ of sorts demonstrating shaping and allowing students to get a taste of surfboard building. Another cool direction being offered on keeping the craft alive.

If I’d wanted to be a CNC machinist I’d have gone down to my dad’s machine shop, or even downstairs at my folks house, where he had (yet another) machine at home! Then again, if I’d incorporated what he knew I’d been about 25 years ahead of the pack.

Great event…keep it going.

If I were a better shaper I’d def bring one, but after thinking about it, I felt it would detract from the great rep of the Probox product to be associated with anything that came from my garage.

Gimme a coupla years ;>)

Would love to attend as a normal old Swaylocker, however…

etmo, I would be honored to demo a install in your board. Just bring the board hot coated and then sanded ready for gloss. Just make sure there is enough tail thickness if the board is a Tri Fin. And remember me when you are famous, alot of great products and ideas come's from that someone's garage. Mahalo,Larry

Very nice of you to put yourself in harm’s way, Larry ;>) I’ll be there.

Just to confirm: It sounds like you’d prefer a poly board by the verbiage – is that correct? No problem, I just don’t want to show up with an epoxy board if you prefer to do your demos on poly.

Also, would you prefer to demo a thruster install, or a quad install? I have both boards almost as done as my caveman-level skills can manage, so feel free to choose.

I’m stoked – at least one thing about this board will turn out perfectly!

The AQUAZAR sound like a great idea. I’m definitely there, and have already started spreading the word.

I have been getting A LOT of responses about this thing BUT no one has stepped up and said I WILL BE THE FIRST SHAPER! Lots of maybes, I will think about it etc etc. Don’t make me do it I have enough to do trying to put this thing together { and taking care of my mother who broke her leg and needs mega help}. Come on show up & “planer up”. There are several shapers in this area who contribute on this forum and I think Swaylocks will have a pretty good turn out. Now is your chance to SHOW your stuff.

Ace. I like it. I’ll do one. Where?

Atta boy Greg. The info is here http://acesurfboards.com/Aquazar.html The first one is Sunday Dec 9th hopefully not the last… depends on interest. This is a great opportunity for manufactures to personally represent their stuff. In a prime surfing location. Plus the “swap meet” part could be interesting! Only a few blocks from where we meet, thats another story remember? You could shape a eps blank Ken/ Segway composites says he will be there with some blanks. Butter is gonna be cooking up the food. If not this time let me know and we will set something around your availability. Thanks ACE

Cool. I’ll be at Kens on Saturday to help him set up and head down on Sunday. Ken has most of my shaping stuff including a Skil 100.
