We call it “gloom.” It used to be “June Gloom.” Now it seems to last all summer.

What the heck is up with that? I've lived near the beach most of my life and it seems only in the last couple years the damn May Grey or June Gloom has started in April and lasted almost until September........
Summer time blues...
I've had kind of the opposite, struggling to get a wave in, due to some solid sell hitting our beaches. My fave's been lumpy, rippy, windy. I thought it'd dropped off the day before yesterday, only to see the local reef working. I so would've gone out, but my big toe injury was flaring up ( always does when the big swell arrives, funny that!! ). Winter here though, should be manageable this morning, im not far off heading out to see.
well, when I’m not working on my paintings I’m working on this-
The miracle of the internet has allowed me to learn my favorite guitar solos, stuff I never imagined I would learn how to play. Leesons, backing tracks and garage band… I’m working of “Peg” by Steely Dan right now…

Sure, laugh all you want, but the last three days I was out there, dawn patrol, and doggone if I didn't get a few fun ones! Tuesday I got there about 6 a.m. and the highway was already parked up, so I had to fork out $3 for the lot! The waves were a lot better than this photo, but soooo crowded. Next day I came earlier, waves a little smaller, but still some good sets, I got a lot more waves because the crowds had thinned a bit.
This morning I paddled out in the dark, couldn't see what was out there, and small as it was, I had a few fun ones all to myself! For a little while. Very little, haahha. This picture looks like today. Gotta love the 'bu. There's a longboard contest on Saturday, so its gonna be worse tomorrow, don't think I'll even bother.
BTW, I saw the thread title and my first thought was Oh no, lillibel broke his new board! LOL

you guys SURE that ain't air pollution ? [ you DO have a 'couple' of cars , and a 'few' people driving to the beach , each day is what I heard , when my brother visited there , a year or two ago ...]
Your june SUMMER days look like our rainy , overcast cooler WINTER days here [only we have swell , very minimal air pollution days ... but with 1-2 degree mornings , at present brrrrr [that is cold...well, it IS for PERTH , anyway !] ] .
That shot I posted was july 5th , from a week before the shark fatality , and 40 minutes south of there .
But , lately , we've had blue skies , often no clouds , half day offshores , and sun all week .
Went 40 minutes north on wednesday [day off] and got shots of my mate , Rowan [ I used HIS land camera , as I no longer HAVE one ?!] .
There were only three other people in the water .
Then , he had it to himself , around sunset time ... [it DID feel a bit 'eerie' , though , got to say . I was glad when he eventually came in , in one piece , just after the camera's batteries had died , anyway !]

Keith flew all the way out here with his family, and we haven’t had much more than head high.
If there’s any decent surf, our crowds look the same as that Malibu shot. Luckily, we’ve had a couple of days with small crowds, about dozen or less spread out.
Typing “how to play” then the song you want in Youtube can be a great tool.
