Barnfield's sorry to miss some hot topics

Sorry I have missed some great discussions and haven’t responded to many of you. I am swamped!

Among others, gotta get this board done for customer pick up tomorrow. Shaped it this evening…I love UV resin…hope I make it. My shorts didn’t…they got sucked into my Skil 100…been a long time since that happened…2:30 am here and heading back to the laminating room.

a] THAT board should be easy to spot in the rip drifting out to sea

b] glad the planer didn’t sever the family jewels

c] “why don’t you glass it with epoxy” ra ra rant brain fart / explosion heheh

nice job …bring back the matching fluoro bike pants …not

Ben

You making fun of my bright blue shorts!!! Grrr!

Those things are at least 10 years old…and will now be retired to the trash bin, it is a sad thing…

Yeah bright boards aren’t so weird looking in Hawaii were the colors of nature are all so vibrant anyway. See photo

I would have used Epoxy…but could never have gotten it done in time! UV Polyester is way, way faster! Just kidding!! Greg, Bert, ect, etc

did you ever do any of the fluoro pink boards for P.T. in the 70s , Bill ?

I just got the Surfer ‘big issue’ today , and was looking at the shot of his quiver of pink boards …

ben

Aloha Ben

I don’t recal making any of those for PT. Tom Parrish was PT’s preferred shaper in those days.

Surfing was a lot more fun, back when everyone wasn’t so afaid to be an individual. Colorful sports are healthy sports. Now…in an effort to show that they are not on an ego trip, everyone gets clear boards so they don’t look like they are trying to stand out. Color is making a comeback, I just hope it keeps coming on stronger. Life is more fun when there is greater diversity and people aren’t so concened about what others think of them regarding artistic choices.

WHoops!

Checked Inline…and they didn’t show up anywhere

PT, still alive and kicking in Pink!

5:30 am Gotta get to bed. Board is hotcoated. Will do plugs and sand tomorrow…

Aloha Bill:

I know this is off topic but my buddy and I are making 13’+ fishing surfboards with outboard motor mounts. I know that Steven Ing use to make them but someone told that you made a few great ones yourself. He added that your fishing boards have a great rocker line and rode really nice. If you did make them, what can you tell rookie who is making his first EPS/epoxy fishing board.

I do appreciate any insights you can provide.

Mahalo,

Dennis

PS: Whatever happened to Steven Ing?

Soo funny Chip…

Watch the stylemasters the other day I said to myself… god I wish I had more pinkies like PT rode in the day…

When I started up again in 90’ after a 20 year layoff got everything in pink…

When I was doing the mountainman thing in the northwest the term “Think Pink” was a popular term to mean you have to realx when you’re hanging by your finger tips off a rock ledge or jumping off a cliff into unknown white stuff…

I thought it was applicable trying to get back into surfing especially the northshore.

PT was way more cool than bugs anyway just check those moves…

Soo funny you bringing it up now…

I thought that was just part of the “retro” trip, like when black wetsuits came back…

Aloha Nels

I think it is a classic example of trying too hard to not have anything distinquisable about their choosen look, “White” board" & “Black” Wetsuit, so that one can document that…by taking on this particular, "fashion or “style”…that they are clearly proving they are not associated with any “group” concerned about "fashion or “style”.

Too bad there aren’t transparent surfboards and wetsuits, then they could really prove how disinterested they were in being fashionable!

oops !

thanks Bill …

how’s my form …I was looking for a slim , long blond haire, goateed Pete…that was the 70s , oops !

now he’s fat and bald . Probably still surfs good too …

Uncle Dennis

I hope you noticed that I took your question into its own thread on the forum

BRIAN [“NOT the messiah, just a VERY naughty boy !”]

“repeat after me , I’m an individual”

CROWD

“YES , we are ALL individuals” …

I am an individual!

Pink is cool and acceptable

So are bright yellow fun boards, for 43 year old Japanese guys who still like to get out in the water and show some style.

And so are Pink nickers… like PT has on in the photo…Well on second thought …they might be pushing it a bit!!! ha! But hey, we are individuals and everything is, not only ok, but is very very cool especially when it is different, and out of the box. So PT, I bow down to your courage and reckless abandon, in front of thousands of people… You Da Man!!

[just an aside …"nickers’ , in Australia, are girls underwear…if P.T. wore THOSE in front of thousands of Hunting down fans …well … extraordinary courage !]

um… on a better note now …

Bill , what are the other dimensions on that 7’6 , please ?

and do you ever gloss coat 'em ?

cheers !

Howzit Bill, Is the board painted with Saturn Yellow floural paint from F.H.? If it is I hope you added some non floural paint since Saturn Yellow alone will fade really quick. Aloha,Kokua

The yellow is a mixed color, not only to hold up better in the sun but to soften the neon impact. Been around the block on that issue a few times.

Back in the late 60s we used to get our neon pigment powders directly from Day Glow. Assuming one loved colors… we made some very cool “acid splash” glass jobs back in those days. Fit right in with black lights and those cool day glow rock concert posters of the day.
