Lance,
Orange tint, homemade plywood quads, no logo, bonzeroid bottom, leash loop. Your board KICKS ASS! I love it. Keep them coming. Mike

This thread just keeps getting better!
Just finished glassing my next one, rode the first the other day(simster inspired one) in really small less than favourable conditions and it was heaps of fun! Hanging five and catching heaps of waves, lots of speed and glide!
The only thing I thought was it could be looser so have made another shorter/thinner hopefully a little more responsive and will try a more traditional fin setup on this,
Just glassed a Flax cloth inlay on the deck, black or red pinline to come then hotcoat and sanding…
Heres a rocker pic for Beerfan too!
Mind you I like the look of that fin setup LanceM, could you possibly post the figures?
Heres the deck:
Got an egg to do first, but yeah, my 5'8 twin keel eggy thing has got me keen for more width, and a flatter rocker!
Hi Lance,
my mini-simmons is a 1/2 moon twin keel, single concave out out through the tail shape but shares the belly in the nose of your board and the ease in which it surfs backhand is also what is really impressing me.
Here’s my latest creation. I call it the PerSimmon: 5’10" x 22 3/4 x 2 7/8. Arctail quad with bonzer concaves, handfoiled and tinted plywood fins.
I’m 6’ 1" and 215lbs and have been surfing for 20 years. I’ve ridden it 4 or 5 times now, and can say
that it’s a blast. It took a while to figure out bottom turns,
because I was used to the squirt of my fish. The PerSimmon bottom turns
and trims frontside like a true hull, and loves to be driven from the front foot. I
can lay into top turns with my back foot and it feels nice and snappy,
or I can stay on my front foot for more drawn out cutbacks - both feel
great, yet completely different.
The main thing I am completely blown away by, is how well it goes backside.
I was planning on mainly using it for a few right-hand reefs/points
(frontside), but today I caught a couple odd lefts and could not believe how
well it went. Super drivey out of bottom turns and went exactly
where I wanted it to. With belly/hull in the front 3rd, I didn’t feel
the nose get sticky like I do with my twin keel. I’ve never felt that
much control going backside before.
Here are some crappy cell phone pics before I started glassing. You can see the concaves and belly much more clearly. The concaves are more blended than they appear due to the added contrast of crappy cell phone.
Heya Beery!
Considering a simmons as your next home shaped board?
Hi, yes Beerfan, just saw this on our version of Ebay and all I can see is potential:)
As an aside my 5’6" has provided a fun ride as a paipo when coming in a couple of times.
Nice! Are you sure its a polyurethane core? Just asking cuz I thought epoxy eats through polyurethane blanks? Do you have the nose and tail dimensions and how wide is the tail right at the tail?
Thanks
You guys are killing me!!. I have a short wide keel fin egg thingy, but not quite as short and wide as these, and im loving it, so you all have me dreaming about doing one of these. Great thread, lots of stoke. Now, to find a snapped longboard somewhere.........
Keep the pics coming people!!
considering shaping my son one, or he might do it himself, and hard to believe we might make a 4 "4" or similar length...whats the shortest people have done or know of ? and other dims etc? how'd they go ???
Mine is still about 1 week away, maybe a little less, very keen to give it a go but have just recently got back on another shape I do quite a few of after being right into my finless trip and am loving this board too....and this has fins haha.....
Scuttlebutt was that Dane Reynolds has been spotted riding a sub 4’er (3’8") after he first rode a 5’4" Dan McDonald made him and then ordered a 4’6".
Wouldn’t know whether to ride it prone or try to stand up on it.
Explore the limits but I can’t imagine riding anything shorter than a 5’4" for me.
Can just imagine your little guy tearing it up on a 4’er Mark.
Had a blast surfing my 5’6" in waist to o’head fast breaking, glassy rights and lefts today.
Controlled speed and the best part is effortless vertical reos that most fish only dream of doing. Fun, fun, fun.
I am shamelessly jumping on the wagon because of all the fine pics and discussion on here. I like a wide tail, i like wide boards, i like the feel of twins. i worked out a template as an effort to expand my favorite board with those features into something even more magical without much understanding of what those dimensional changes would acheive. My vaguely piggy, nuggetty ideas became a template…I traced it onto a slab of xps and cut the outline, then all i could do from then on was to figure out how to turn it into a sim/ stub. If i start the tail here, can i get 19 in the nose…so why fight it! I hacked off the nose and tail and now I am psyched. I got a little stack of 6 mil corecell to wrap it in. I have gotten overly technical with methods and materials on a few boards…gonna try to keep that in mind; the contours on these are already more than i have attempted. I will definitely put up a photo when alls done, sorry for no pic on this post on a ‘show’ thread…i only have internet on my little cell phone, no more computer, but should be able to send and i will when its all shaped up. Mine is 5’11", 14 tail base, 18 1/2" n 23 mid 20 tail, will be 2 1/2 thick after pressing core skins on. I am 6’1" and 190 lb, i guess that should be aright. My only question is a foot up from tail, can i go 1 1/2" thick, or are they ‘better’ with absurd thickness untill a rapid s at the end? Thanks everyone, i am inspired
Can someone post rocker shots please, if possible?? Love this thread!
Nice one,I got to surf mine in clean shoulder high surf today and holy warp speed!I can’t wait to put quads on it.
Just finished…
Dims are: 6’4" x 19 1/2" N x 23" x 20" T x 3" thick.
