Best Board shorts?? But where now?

The best pair of shorts I ever had were a pair of blue Katins that i borrowed for a while, then gave back and my moron friend lost them! I’ve owned all manner of shorts, those fancy micro fibre super soft ones, Birdwell and what ever. But i miss those Katins i had for a summer.

Is Katins still in business or is the rumor i heard about speedo buying them and phaseing them out true?

Who makes their shorts these days out of that heavy nylon (i think) weave that katin did?

A good pair of shorts don’t kling when wet, like those super soft ones, and birdwells are allittle on the short side, and the pocket is weak, does anyone make a quality product anymore in the realm of board shorts. There has to be some small company filling the gap, 'cause the big ones are sure dropping the ball as i see it, all fashion and no function!

Birdwells makes a pair of 18’’ length boardies I like. I think those guys make good shorts that fit right. Katin was not bought by speedos. They were bought by K2, who has sense closed them down as a national brand. I think you can still get them at the old Katin factory though.

Modern run of the mill name brands be suckin pretty bad. You said it; low on function high on fashion. You might as well buy Mossimo from Target as Quiksilver or Volcom. At $17.00 they are a way better deal and the same for the most part.

SUPOSEDLY

The Quiksilver cell boardshorts are the best out right now because they said it’s almost impossible to get a rash with them.

My favorite pair so far have been Ezekiel’s they are the microfiber kind but they dont have a large velcro fly it’s like a piece of microfiber and elastic with a small peice of velcro.

what ever they have at costco for under $16.00…

precisely what i was going to say. surf shops charge what?..$40-45 for a pair of boardshorts!!!..that’s nuts!!! i stocked up on some Counter Culture boardshorts from costco a couple months ago for a whopping $16 each. i got one of every style and color they had. i hope they get more soon.

I agree Katin and Birdwell were the original lifeguard shorts of choice they last forever…

This may sound a but weird but after a couple of intensedays of 6 hour sessions maybe longer.

both my armpits and and the inside of thighs start to rash up to the point of making a third, fourth or fifth day of 4-6 hours in the water very painful.

So if I’m going to surf alot like during a big swell, vacation or on a trip or something like that, I prefer those neoprene paddling shorts Excel makes with the lycra side panels.

They also help when you’re doing the 15’ air drop seawater enima wipeout routine so you don’t balloon up and pop your tie/velcro fly when you hit.

There’s alot of guys in hawaii that use those wetsuit shorts.

I always felt those and a wetsuit tank helped as you got bounced off the reef every now and then.

I guess that’s why alot of guys here also wear Gath’s when it get’s big.

Just another weird Hawaii thing I guess…

What are the best board shorts?

Whatever my wife buys for me.

Quicksilver lasted me around 3 years of every day wear, they died and now I’ve got my favourite orange Dali Lama shorts that might last until this christmas…

I’ve found that I get a rash beyond beleif from the ones with mesh inside…eee tedible!

ALOHA!

The new …LOST board shorts are the best yet still more money but you get what you pay for.

I’am goin to get a new pair next friday on my OBX trip.

I like a nice animal print banana hammock, tucked neatly around my johnson and rocks, and make sure the back is just a string, or you’ll get tan lines on your booty. (you quickly get used to the dental floss effect). low rider cut with a bow-tie on each side. Try and find the stretchy translucent fabric, and buy 2 sizes too small.

i’ve been considering the euro style, you know the string in back to little pouch up front, but i dont want to be that cool. I’ll settle for second best, and something without the mesh inset training wheels inside, or maybe just the mesh training wheels, who knows. So many to chose from!

I have had the trouble of finding good boardshorts forever, i always seem to get nut rash! Then i found these great shorts for surfing, no nut chaffing at all, in fact it feels like my nuts never even touch the suit! Not sure what the brand is;)

I am going to apologize ahead of time for that before anyone tells me it was unnecessary. This post was just screeming for me to use that picture.

Patagonia makes some nice ones (no surprise there I guess) but they are not cheap - about $45 unless you get them on sale. Just saw some on the internet for $25 if brown is your favorite color… ON the other hand they last a long time so you get what you pay for…

my brother and I call that “staining someone’s memory”. we always include some innocuous title of the pic file…I could sense that one coming, but was drawn right in anyway…!!Whew!! it’s gonna take a lot of beer suds tonight to work out that stain…

I just picked up two pairs of boardshort from Target. nice styles and they looked good enough for me. I’ll be damn if I am going to pay $48 for boardshorts that advertise for Quiksilver or some big a$$ lable. The Target shorts and the big name surf shorts were probably made in the same sweatshop anyway…

Best board shorts out there are Patagonia. They have about 4 good styles. Not pricey if you compare them to the big name surf companies.

www.patagonia.com you can order online.

Katin is still in business. They have a shop in just south of Seal Beach, CA.

OMG! I am going to have nightmares for months! Please post a warning next time before posting such photos! My eyeballs feel like they’ve just been scrubbed with some #40 grit!

As a chick, I don’t have to worry about the small ‘discomforts’ that come with the occasional board short chaffing.

Sooooo…good luck with that, guys. Have fun with the nut rash! snickers

For me, I like the Roxy board shorts, or a pair of small …Lost.

Oh, and btw…there should defiently be a warning with a pic like that! My eyeballs burn!!!
