The next Cerritos College workshop is in the works. This next event will focus on the garage shaper and cover items such as ding repair, fin placement and design, glassing, and other topics. The plan is to have some lecture and demos with lots of Q & A time. If there are items you would like to see covered, let us know and we will see if we can incorporate them into the workshop. Exact date and time to follow…
There will be a limit of 40 people at the workshop, and there will be a $ 20.00 donation. Included will be another BBQ and more info on special surfboard building classes that we are working on. The plan is to have a special class (maybe on weekends) where you can build your own surfboard, and puruchase all the material through the Cerritos Plastic Club at or near cost. To purchase these items you will have to be a registered student and there will be a limit to how much material you can purchase. The idea is to allow you to purchase enough to do your class project (surfboard). The items will include EPS blanks (American Blanks) epoxy (Resin Research), as well as fin boxes, leash plugs, fiberglass, etc...
Thanks!!!
Ken
silly question but for those of us unable to participate are there any hand outs produced as part of this course? I was just thinking that the cousre notes would be a great resource for the other homebuilders to refer to.
Hi Ken, glad to see you back. You must be pretty busy, yeah? It wll be hard if not impossible for me to attend because of family obligations. After the last Cerritos event there was talk about making a DVD/Video of the proceedings. Did anyone ever do that? Wold something like that be possible for this one? Also who will the experts be this time aournd?
We will see if we can get Greg to make a return trip as well as Hank Johns. I plan on seeing if I can get several of the fin Mfg’s to explain their products and installation processes. Bill Thrailkill as graciously volunteered to discuss some of the topics and his craftsmenship.
That would be great!! I think there is also a DSL connection through the College, so with a little work, the whoule thing could even be live cast! Any suggestions???
Thanks!!!
Ken
As there will be a limit of 40 people at this workshop, please contact Mr. Terry Price (The Composite Guy) at Cerritos College to RSVP. Terry can be reached via www.mfgskills.com web page.
I’m probably in the right demographic here. I’m a basic hobbiest in this area. There’s no way I could do it and make money. I’m too slow.
Airframe asked for topics or demonstrations. Here are some things I’d like to learn more about:
Installing finboxes.
Freelaps and cutlaps.
Working with epoxy resin. I’ve worked with poly and read about epoxy, but I’d like to actually see how epoxy flows and absorbs into the glass as well as how it handles when it gels or stiffens.
