Cerritos College - Open House II

Save the date - Saturday, August 6th

More to come, this is just a preliminary invite.

Cerritos College Advanced Composites Learning Center

Open House, Saturday, August 6, 2005.

Time to be announced.

Signed speakers and demos:

Greg Loehr (Resin Research) - Will show the eps and epoxy system - standard eps blanks, perimeter stringer blanks - shaped and unshaped. Your chance to get the feel and advice on shaping techniques from a professional who has worked for years with this blank style. Epoxy glassing techniques will be discussed and demoed.

Ken Ebert (Segway Composites) - Is going to talk about his incredible hollow carbon fiber and honeycomb surfboard. These are the boards that blew everyone away at the first open house.

kenz (Cerritos College) - will demo the vacuum infusion process on a sample size setup. If you have become curious about this process from the various threads on Swaylocks, now is the chance to see for yourself.

how do you get there?

This one sounds better than the last one! Much more about composites. I wasn’t going to go, but this one sounds interesting.

Daddio,

Keep us posted. This one sounds even better than the last. I want to be there.

Sounds like a good gig, I’m there.

Man if anyone who posts here about new tech is close enough to attend and doesn’t at least try, I at the least say shame on you. Someone went through some trouble to line these guys up wish I could go…

In any case could someone see if they can at the least do a detailed write up and two see if pictures are allowed and post them too? The peanut gallery far far away would greatly appreciate it. I saw something similar on the surfer design forum but most of those characters didn’t get it…

I’d like to see someone attending at least ask for a discussion on whether the foam is needed or not on a sandwich design as you’ll have all three examples there…

maybe this should be pinned until it’s over…

thanks for posting daddio and keep us updated if there’s anymore. If I could ever line up a business trip to the mainland coincide I’d at least make the effort… Knowledge is priceless

mahalo…

More on the Surfboard Construction Forum…

I will be posting later, a flyer that describes more about the forum, but I have to get to a scanner first. In the meantime, here is a little more:

The forum is schedule to start at 9:00AM and cover the Cerritos College Program Overview, Vendor Presentations, Vacuum Bagging, Surfboard Construction Methohds, a BBQ lunch break, More demo’s and a Resin Infusion demo. The forum should end around 2:30 or 3:00PM. Parking lot discussions could go beyond that!

For directions, area and campus maps, go to www.mfgskills.com. The address is 11110 Alondra Blvd. Norwalk CA 90650.

The plan is to have Greg Loehr not only talk about Resin Research Epoxy Systems, but hopefully demo an epoxy lay-up.

Because this is a long program, we had planed to do a BBQ lunch break, but we need to have a couple of folks bring BBQ’s to cook on. I think if we do this as a sort of “Pot Luck” affair, there will be plenty for everyone. We still need to work through the BBQ and refreshments, and we still need to talk to Terry Price first. Terry won’t be back till next Monday, and we will firm up and provide more details at that time.

Daddio… Thanks for making the post…

Ken

Oneula, I will record to the best of my ability and take pictures. If you want to know about hollow carbon fiber surfboards, I suggest that you ask Airframe direct, if not on this thread, however you choose!

Thrailkill, talk story? (Contact Airframe) or not.

Thanks to Glenn S. who suggested I go to the College and check it out, but the real guy we owe thanks to is - kenz. (Yay kenz!) kenz and Terry Price setup the first Cerritos College Mfg Skills Open House. I’m just trying to get with the program.

The cool thing is not that it’s there for the taking, it’s there for the asking, any step of the way up to the most exotic stealth fighter. Pretty damn cool…

Ken, Yeah!!! But you forgot to say… Just don’t try to get past the red velvet ropes and lift up the tent flap of the mystery tent that contains the incredible MATERIAL OF THE FUTURE!

later septembr the fares drop making it possible for the far flung county cousins to attend ?.. great concept are there to be more?

…ambrose…

august is busy an cant get away

Thrailkill, talk story? (Contact Airframe) or not.

Edit: Daddio, is there a question in there? PM, or call me.

With regard to the Surfboard Construction Forum, several other areas of recognition should be expressed. We would have been remiss in not commending Terry Price (Cerritos College Instructor) in his support and efforts to open up the college facilities and resources for this forum. Terry has demonstrated his willingness to help expand the skills and knowledge in the areas of materials and techniques by utilizing his many years of experience and expertise. Besides, he’s a great person!!

I would personally like to extend my gratitude and appreciation on behalf of Swaylocks, to Terry, as well as his staff for all the efforts they have put forth.

I also look forward to kenz Infusion demo. Thanks kenz!

I hope to see enough people there to fill up the parking lot!!!

Ken

Cerritos College Surfboard Construction Forum…

Hope to post later today the flyer for the event. It should also be posted under the Events & Happenings area on Swaylocks.

As part of the Forum, Segway Composites will be donating one of its surfboard blanks as one of the prizes for the Surfboard Contest. The blank will be an EPS blank of 2 lb density foam, with a rocker template based on one of Greg Loehr’s rocker templates. As clarification, Segway Composites makes the hollow carbon fiber surfboard as well as EPS surfboard and paddleboard blanks.

Please check out the flyer (FAX copy) for the Surfboard Forum. The flyer is posted under the Events & Happenings.
Let us know if you will be able to attend, so we have an idea of how manypeople will be attending. If you do plan to attend, don't forget to reserve a parking sticker/pass for the event. As the date for the forum gets closer, we will post additional information
Thanks!!
Ken

Bump this back to the top.

Please RSVP if you are going to go, they need to know so they can feed us, no too much to ask in my opinion. I am really excited about this seminar, and I have a buddy coming down from ventura for it too.

Rob

Don’t forget to RSVP to get a parking pass…

It’s going to be good!

Daddio…

Thanks again for the reminder. EVERYONE should RSVP Cerritos College. The number is posted on the flyer in the Events and Happenings section of Swaylocks. As there is limited space, there may be a limit as to how many people can attend.

We will be asking folks to help out by bringing drinks and munchies for the lunch. Segway Composites will provide the hamburgers and buns, but I need some help on the rest. Glen Shotwell said he could bring his gas grill. We could use another… Soadas in ice chests, E-Z up, napkins, mustard…normal BBQ stuff…

A new flyer with more details is being generated and will be posted soon.

Thanks!

Ken

Any chance of someone videotaping this?

EarlyRiser…

I think that is a great idea…as long as you can edit!

Thanks!

On another topic…It was suggested that it would be great if Bert Burger could attend the Cerritos Forum. It would be great, but after talking to Bert, he explained that he has other commitments, and will be leaving the Los Angeles area on Monday and will not be able to attend. Bert said he would have enjoyed being with the Swaylocks group, but… He sends his regards. I have had a chance to work with Bert, and he is everything you would expect…and more! A great person!!!

Ken

I think there is enough cool stuff without Bert, but it would of been nice… I’m sure there will be more events if you miss this one, but why? Meanwhile contact Ken (airframe) or Cerritos College (Terry) if you get a bolt of lightning up your arse if you want to contribute or attend…

I RSVP’d and secured parking. I told them I’d bring a BBQ. Let me know if I can be of any more help. Gil
