Clark foam is over!!

I just got a call, I heard Clark shut the doors today it is over WTF!!!, something about , EPA and OSHA. Im trying to get more info .

No more close tolerance blanks, what’ll we do???

Maybe we could help them…

The new EPA regulations I suspect have something to do with all the fuss.

Balsa anyone?

Going to be a lot of obsolete resin sitting around.

Geez, if that’s true Burfords is going to be busy eh! I hope this one’s a misguided rumour like most of these things.

I’ve got a couple of 7’3"E’s with Frye rocker. I’ll let them go for $2,000 each…

it is true just off phone

Holy Crap! What does this mean for the surf industry? Clark must supply the largest % of blanks in the industry right? I know that walker makes blanks but I have yet to see an easy to find distributor in southern Cali. and their web site is crap (not that I have looked to hard). Do you guys think they will just up and move base to Mexico? That would make the most sense to me. Well heres to hoping its not true or heres to hoping the price of surfboard blanks does not skyrocket. Its bad enough with the price hike in resin. I am going to pick up used board this weekend in Costa Mesa. I hope that guy is unaware…he might try to charge me more! Ha HA.

By “shutting the doors” do you guys mean for good… as in no more Clark PU construction? Or is it a matter of changing some mfg. processes and they’ll be back in the game within weeks?

Cheers,

Alex

i feel like i am about to have a heart attack and or cry. i hope this is some quick fix thing becasue what are we going to do. granted most of us now eps but i like clark, and i dont really feel like messing around with eps again right now.

and for me clark is the most viable option as its only 45 minutes from home.

we need more info

wonder if there should be a “b” in front of the username…

if not, then yeah…this is kind of a sad day.

hey, I’m on the eps for life now, but I know there’s gonna be alot of VERY talented VERY pissed off craftsmen out there that are going to have to make some serious adjustments if this is indeed true. all the best to the classicists and Greg, I guess the pressures on to get that 3 and 4# eps going!

I just talked to some freinds and this is not a rumor or a temp shutdown . Clark sent out a 7 pg fax explaining the closing. This will change things for sure !! this should be interesting. Will there be a PANIC to grab your last clark surfboard, shaped by hand, will see. Someone just called Yater and asked to buy his whole foam inventory, too much!! ----- this is gonna get strange.

Clark foam is sunk!

(pardon the pun, couldn’t help it)

Rio

Just called FH in Santa Cruz…Jessie said there were some issues and all retail sales were on hold.

Sounds like they’re saving inventory for their volume customers.

Pssst - anybody wanna buy some 2# EPS?

Does anyone have a copy of the fax?? i didnt get one at the factory and we only have about 65 blanks left. I dont know what we are going to do.

I’d like to be the first to say, that if Clark has closed…they owe me money. I have a few custom blanks on the way, already payed for…

If it is environmental, wouldn’t effect all PU manufacturers? Or is it just in California? I know they have more stringent environmental regulations.

Does anyone have a link to the fax?

Spoons

im nc so i called foamez because there still open and the guy i talked to said that he would know more tomorrow but clark foam had shut down.

Mitch’s surf shop, one of the largest suppliers of clark blanks in So Cal has closed and locked their doors until further notice

Bing/Jacobs/Wegener manufacturing has confirmed the rumor but luckily has plenty on stock for then next few months

Wow, this is going to turn the surfboard world on its head

Prices are definitely going to spike!!!
