Wow, it looks awesome huie! has mick given feed back yet?
To update what we are doing, With the new AKU machine now up and running sweet I have made 2 x CDD blanks and 1 PU blank of the same file. Trevor will put different bottoms on the 3 boards so they can be surfed on the same day to feel the difference between each type of board. I will also have a CDD Beach fish at the fish fry for test riding of a stringerless CDD blank. Trevor has some work to do now and more on the way. Peter
Hey Peter. Any more news re the CDD blanks?
cheers, Rob
Rob
The blank is starting to work for us and a few crew, Huie and I would like to see the blank used as a compsite setup where a bottom skin is bagged on with no stringer. This is why Huie is making some sample boards with cedar on the bottom so they can be surfed and see how they hold up, should have a few at the fish fry next month
Peter
PM me…I have a question for you
I TOLD Huie to stay away from the brown acid!..LOL
Hey Pete ,
How's it all going have been watching from the sidelines your new foam sounds a treat hope the families all good have been playing with ideas for ultra lite fins that are super strong but have great flex patterns say hi to all at Currumbin for me will drop in when up your way next time .... have you made your first million yet.
Regards Rod,
Hi there Rod
Hows is it in Sydney
Did a crazy thing over xmas several crazy things really, moved factory to the main road so everything now is in one factory, Purchased a AKU machine, up and running in 2 days once we got it, Mike is a good guy and knows his shit, the machine runs so nice and the cuts so good, 33" wide 13 ’ long cuts so good for the surf life savers stuff and paddle boards. Then to add more pressure sold the big house and purchased a nice place at Tallai so all in all a very heavy work load but we have made it and now working flat out while the USA dollar is weak, selling heaps of foam. The CDD blanks is working nice with a .5mm wood verneer skin on the bottom to protect the EPS from damage. EPS sure hates the UV rays and any water so the veneer works great. Trevor is making a board that we will send around to we can get a heaps of feed back on how it works. Give me a call be good to catch up
Peter
Without discounting your new approach (great stuff really), I wonder what EPS you are using that makes it so susceptible to UV and water?
The EPS I have used since 1980 has improved markedly and I am surprised at your comments. Whereas it was true that EPS was notorious for water invading it once dinged, that simply isn’t the case that we now experience with the new EPS. The susbsequent improvement of epoxies with UV inhibitors has also provided benefit to the overall end product.
Even 35 years ago EPS was being subjected to harsh UV exposure for floating docks and other such uses, so I am genuinely curious as to what is different in your experience from what we experience in the states. Maybe the hole in the ozone above you has grown to a point above and beyond what we are aware of!
hey bruce
** methinks peter has been doing to many cook ups’'**
any boards i have done have had no complaints off this nature
importantly this blank is doing what it was meant to do ( improved performance)
thats why we build boards . is it not?
to go into what we use &how we do it gives the whole game away. bruce the process from blank to board
is a hard road with little prbs poping up here & there ( mainly cosmetic) but i am on its case.
the big winner so far is this marriage to rohacell
here is a ride report on an old design with new tech
This one’s come in from a Queensland lab with an impeccable pedigree.
The
outline is pure late sixties QLD with an eerie echo of forgotten
pioneer…Kevin Platt, who died alone and destitute in a Casino
caravan park.
Due to it’s similarities in outline to Slater’s deep
Six (forward foil, round tail) and considering it’s late sixties
heritage I’ve christened it the Deep Sixty-Nine.
The materials and construction technique is high tech and contains a lot of secret sauce. This thing is light..
I’d
say it’d be 5’10 or 11 by 19 by 23/8 with lowish, soft boxy rails , a
slight belly to double concave and continous but pronounced rocker
curve.
Hows it ride?
First sesh was at a fun but flattish faced
pointbreak. It’s lower volume than I’ve been riding and it felt hard to
paddle. It paddled into waves really easily though, and was whip fast
through turns. Liked staying close to the pocket.
Really smooth through a backside bottom turn /top turn combo and liked to run that turn through a full arc.
Second sesh on a head high really hollow left rip bank and the board came into it’s own.
Some
unique feelings related to the forward foil. Hey there’s something
under my front foot I can push off…proper bottom turns.
With
the rocker curve and outline it runs a full rail carve in the
hook…the arc runs to the base and a small check turn for the
barrel…halellujah there’s a forward trim point to tube ride on.
Don’t know much about the materials but the deep 69 is lively…is that related to the flex pattern?
Too early to tell but I’d guess yes.
This thing with rocker adjusted accordingly will smoke a fish in any conditions.
No tracking.
Thanks Huie.
I’ll try and post a pic.
