Couple new ones i'm working on...

So I’ve finally set up and started shaping in my new shaping tent. It’s been well over a year since I’ve touched my planer to foam, so i was a little anxious to say the least. I have probably 15 boards total under my belt, and i’ve glassed about half of them myself. I’m definitely still learning…but each ones better than the last. So here’s a couple of my latest.

This one is 5’8’’ x 19.25 x 2 3/8, i still need to install boxes (2+1) and sand/pinline/gloss. It was from the last clark i had.

This one I’m still shaping but i thought I’d snap some pix of my progress. It’s 5’10 x 20ish x 2.5.

Nice shapes mate, i especially like the second one. Progress pics are a must!!

Im diggin that yellow one andy!

if you wanna bring it down and try some pinlines out just let me know…you know where I am!

that second one looks pleasing to me

yeah, that second one has something nice going on. Notice the little bumps i threw in towards the tail. I’m not sure what kind of fin configuration to go on this, maybe just a single?

Ryan-thanks buddy. I’m actually going out of town for the next week or so, but maybe i’ll hit you up if i have time when i get back and we’ll hook up.

I can’t wait to try that yellow one.

looks like a shape that would deserve a 5 fin set up

Yeah, i’m thinking that the second board would be a perfect 5 fin option a la Probox versa-plane.

Thoughts?

I am planning something similar for my next board. I am going to take the speed-dialer template for the nose, a rounded pin template from a mini-longboard (one of my first boards from when I was 10 yrs. old).

The board that I have in my mind looks just like one in your third picture, maybe a little bit rounder tail.

I am going to put 4 Pro-boxes and one 10" box in the center.

That way I can do even more experimenting with fins.

What are the bottom contours?

OB, exactly what i was thinking. The bottom is single to slight double, flat out the tail.

biz

Im in process of installing a 7 box set up ala versaplane probox

6 sides and 10" center

On the 5.8 disc Im working on

I will rout and set the last two boxs tonight

but I wont be able to get back at it till next week then I will grind them and polish the board

I will post pics on the old thread and start a new one for coments on the set up

Hang loose

hey Ken, that’s insane…i saw the pix of the 5 you had going.

Can’t wait to see the final product!

Exceptionally nice. Particularly the yellow one. I have similar board shaped by Greg Loehr. Wish it was a quad or 5 er.

Thanks Greg!

That yellow one is definitely getting at least 3 (2+1) fins…

I ground them and started to step snd the bottom

Pics

Well i thought i’d update this thread with some progress pix.

The yellow one is on the back burner for now because the winged rounded pin has my heart. The tint is actually a faint coke bottle green, not light blue as the first pix suggests. I plan on doing black pinlines on the deck to balance out the black fin box on the bottom, then one last thinned out hotcoat then sanding up to 4 or 600 and buff 'er out. Hopefully she’ll be in the water sometime this weekend.

I bet the 5’10" will barrel ride like it’s on auto pilot. goregous.

Thanks riderofwaves…fingers crossed on that one for sure.

Can anyone comment on the fact that my fin box (black) comes very close to my deck. I can see it through my deck. I don’t think it touches the fiberglass, but there’s not much foam between the box and deck glass. And i did not reinforce the box with glass or anything. And on that same note, would it still be safe to do a finbox leash hole? or should i just install a plug?

Thanks.

Great looking rides there, BG! Without seeing it, hard to say, but I’d bet it would not be a problem to do the leash attachment through the finbox. Just make sure where you make the hole on the deckside has nothing but resin around it and you’ll be fine. The finbox is stronger than a leash plug, so no worries there.

Right on, that’s good to hear…and thats what i figured. Thanks!
