This is the first time that i’ve put a thread on swaylock’s. I’ve been shaping for about four years, just for friends and word of mouth. I’ll tell you what! I LOVE IT.Well this winter my fifteen year old daughter asked if she could shape her own board instead of me and I said go for it.This is what she shaped, a 9’6"x231/2 and she did the art work also. Here is a photo.
I’ll try to put a better photo on and the glass work was done by fibercraft.it seems my other photo has to much kb and wont attach can any one help out.
Nice job! 9’6"! That’s a pretty impressive task. My first board is only 6’.
Keep up with the shaping! It’d be nice having another girl around on swaylocks. Like Ben said, gotta keep this place co-ed. I’m just up the way from you guys in DC. It’s not so much up the way as a 4 hour drive, but it’s all relative.
If you take your image off your camera, open it with Irfanview, click Image–> Resize, knock it down to 640x480 or something smaller and most of the time the jpg will be small enough for Swaylocks to take (and yet still look good). If not then you can go to File → Batch Conversions, find the file/files, add it to the list. Make sure the output format is set to JPG, then tinker with the Options button sliding the quality down till you can get under the 67Kb(?) limit.
Beautiful board. I wish someone had started me surfing when I was 15. Sailing, swimming, cannoing etc, I visit Hawaii every year to see relatives, and I only started surfing this year.
Well, board is awesome and sharing the building process should be great…but are you sure you want your family to breath the same toxic dust/fumes you’ve been taking during these years???
Ja,ja,…someone could think you’re not a good father…

Rachel
hey , hang on a sec ! Don’t be too modest there , lady …
your first board is
an
eps core,
cut it apart and stringer it ,
hotwire cut ?
shaped
epoxy resined
resin swirled board , all done by you alone !
…did I miss anything [else complicated that you are doing for YOUR first board ?]
geez …
my first crap job was , at 24yo , stripping and reshaping a 5’11’’ early eighties thruster into about a maybe ?4’8??? piece of rubbish with square rails , no rocker and …no idea [no swaylocks , no board making videos , no planer … like I said , no CLUE at all . ]
I gave it to some poor kid.
cheers ,
ben
and , yes …[surprisingly] I even kept a photo of it …ready for a laugh / cry ?
Incredible effort, especially for your first board. AND I LOVE THE ART.
This could be groundbreaking. I’ve never read anything about any famous girl shapers. I could be wrong, but then again you could be the first. Keep at it. We could be witnessing history in the making.
RandR. no she hasn’t tried the board out yet the water is to cold for her taste right know maybe in april. this va beach water is about 43 now. also the first board I shaped her was a 7’6" pintail singlefin, then she asked to try my longboard out and fell in love with the glide, so the next board was a 9’2" .
