You’re kinda missing the point, guy. ;-) I was responding to a comment someone else made where they said that some of the bullying and negative comments probably scare some people away. I wasn’t “butthurt” at all about the sawzall comment. It wasn’t a productive comment to sincere questions but I know the guy was just being sarcastic – which is why I said that was not a nasty comment. Could a comment like that cause others to not participate? Perhaps, but in the grand scale of bullying, negative, and divisive comments, it wasn’t a big deal so let’s move on…
However, what was NASTY and divisive and would cause many to not participate was the long thread about ALL sups being dangerous that went on for pages with **some even suggesting violence - including SHOOTING STANDUP SURFERS WITH GUNS. **(Yes, I did go back and read through the entire thread.)
To me, the issue should be that some humans, whether they are on standups, kayaks, SHORTBOARDS, LONGBOARDS, kites, windsurfers, etc., do idiotic things that sometimes endanger others.
**Questions that come to mind are… **
Why do standup surfers that know how to surf and respect those around them get lumped in with the kooks that endanger us? Why doesn’t a forum that generates it’s income from advertising moderate comments/users that suggest the initiation of violence against others?
For what it’s worth… The only two potentially dangerous situations I experienced in the water the last year or so were BOTH from kook SHORTBOARDERS. And yet, there they were outside taking off on waves they couldn’t surf with no clue about right-of-way and endangering others to the point where I came close to getting impaled in the head by the nose of one of the guys boards. Now, do you see me posting forum threads denouncing ALL shortboarders…with everyone else piling on and threatening to beat up ALL shortboarders and shoot ALL shortboarders with guns? Of course not because I recognize that the vast majority of shortboarders can handle themselves, and that regardless of the craft being ridden, there will always be a few clueless morons in the water.

Guys, the reason I bothered to respond to this thread was because I recognize that this forum is an AWESOME resource and I am so thankful to the owner for starting it and for the input from all of YOU experts. Seriously, the knowledge contained in this forum from what amounts to hundreds of years of board building experience is freaking amazing! So all I’m suggesting is a level of civility that doesn’t discourage others from sharing their ideas so that this forum will continue to flourish.
