I BELIEVE I MADE A MISTAKE ON MY LAST ENTRY, ABOUT MY FRIEND CHRIS GARDNER. I SAID, THAT
HE WENT OVER THE CLIFF IN ONE OF THE WOODY'S I SOLD HIM. I WANT TO MAKE A CORRECTION
TO THAT STATEMENT. I BELIEVE, HE WENT OVER THE CLIFF IN HIS VAN. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I AM
WRONG. I AM GOING TO START TO POST SUPERNATURAL SURFING STORIES SOON. PLEASE KEEP
AN EYE PEELED FOR 'NAKY'S FICTIONAL ADVENTURES' IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. MIKE, DO YOU
REMEMBER THE DAY WE WENT OUT TO SURF AT MOKULEIA, WHEN IT WAS CLOSED OUT, AND WE
HAD TO WAIT OUTSIDE BEYOND THE BREAK FOR HOURS, UNTIL WE PADDLED IN. '70'S MEMORIES'.
I HOPE THE REUNION GOES WELL, BUT THE PLACE I AM AT WON'T ALLOW ME TO GO. I SHOULD BE
IN MY OWN APARTMENT IN 6 TO 10 WEEKS FROM NOW. I WAVE MY LITTLE HAND TO ALL THE
REUNION PARTICIPANTS, AND WISH EVERYBODY MY BEST. MAYBE NEXT YEAR, WE CAN PLAN
ANOTHER ONE, AND I CAN BRING COPIES OF MY FICTION NOVEL FOR EVERYONE, AFTER IT GOES TO
PRESS. I'M WAVING MY LITTLE HAND TO ALL THE REUNION PARTICIPANTS, AND WISHING YOU ALL A
GOOD TIME. TILL THE NEXT WAVE COMES. GENE BRING ALAN WITH YOU TO THE REUNION.

Naky! Howzit Cleigh Eaton here. Glad to hear from you. Certainly glad you are making positive improvements in your life. Most of what you shared was right on. However it was Doug Kingsley, Norman Nauka, and myself who first paddled to Outside reef back in 63’. I remember being the guy who first took the Kendalls along with Andy Toothman the first time they went out there. Kendalls lived roadside next to us and your family was opposite neighbor with us. My Mom had that property from time of the Kingdom of Hawaii, given to her from her hanai Father Wiliam Brede. She live there from the late 1920’s-30’s. We had a beach shack where we would stay on weekends til we started building our home in 56’. It was during that time that we stayed and lived there permanently. Again, happy to hear you are doing better. Hope to see you soon at the reunion.
Kaha Koa! Kaha Kaika! Be Bold! Be Strong!
Ka Haku Kou Akua I Keia Manawa! The Lord your God is with Thee!

Roy, I will be there to enjoy and also to shoot video. I think this may be an epic event, so I’ll try to capture something that may be the beginning of a larger project.
I haven’t seen any of my gang, but I’ll stop by at the homes of those I know when I come down to EB again. The 3 guys I was closest to were David Arioli, Joey Gaynor and Scott Kauihou. I was pretty good friends with David Bacalso and the O’Reilly boys. I know HF was on this thread, I hope he’s watching. I lost touch with most of the others. I don’t even know the guys who started surfing there after the early 80’s when I moved away.
My brother and I grew up in Leeward Estates, but we went to school at Kamehameha from 7th grade so our contact with the EB gang from that time on was almost all from surfing at SC. We also had our little gang of EB/Kamehameha surfers. Guys like Cal Eaton, David Ontai, Mark and Kevin Kahalekulu, Kevin Palmerton all went to KS. I knew Kevin P., but I was friends with his younger brother Snoopy.
I mentioned earlier that I can either bring Lomi Salmon, or Poi. If you guys rather have one or the other say so now.
Sharkcountry, are you and your age group of ewa beach surfers going to the reunion? I hope so. You must really be trippin’ at all the stuff that’s being written, or should I say confessed to here.
Ewabeachroad, yeah that’s my brother Roy. Remember you asked me to talk to him. By the way, did you get in contact or can you, with Shirley Rogers to come to this reunion?
Like I said, for the most part, we were all good in the surf; it was on land that we had our adventures. It was what it was, and it is what it is.
Like Squideye and myself sez, to be continued…
This is Naky, the hula teachers son from Ewa Beach Road. Me and my parents moved there is 1953.
One year later Mike and Steve Kendall moved in, and it was then in the mid 50's ,that I began to surf on
their old balsa boards that they loaned to me. My first surfboard was a 8'2" Velzy surfboard, and later a
9' Jacobs concave. They were great boards. As time went on, I acquired a 1939 Mercury Woodie from
Rick Ioli, a 1930 model A woody, a 51 Buick woody, and Two 1950's Ford woodies. Chris Gardner
bought one of the 1950 fords' and went over the cliff with it a year later. He started the Lightning Bolt Surf Shop
with Jim Green and Jerry Lopez in front of the then, new Ala Moana Shopping Center. By the mid 60's I began
surfing Laneakea, Sunset, and Chuns Reef with the Kendalls, and Rick Parish. Steven Kendall discovered
the outside reef and sand barr located in front of the Ewa Beach Park around that time. Later, we all
went out as well as Clay Eaton, Kevin Johns, Dick Delong, Herbert Pruse, the Gardner Brothers, and Lester
Inamoto. Awesome breaks. Later on the Walsh Brothers, Dave Cueva, and Tommy Colups came to ride. I
remember seeing my calabash cousin Tom(the horsefly) Philips, he surfed Ewa Beach, when he wasn't out diving.
We would go over his house and party, when Rap Riplinger, James Benton, and Carol and TuTu where there.
They talked about comedy by the stem, and spoke in Hawaiian with each other. Wonderful times. In our younger
years my mother taught alot of us hula, and we danced on the television shows like the Jack McCoy show, and
the Lucky Luck Show. There was always so many pretty girls around. I went on to playing Folk Music at the
Honolulu FM Radio stations, and in 1972 David Churchill, a scout out of San Fransisco, took me their to show
me the wonders of Haight Ashbury, and meet all the Bands. That I did ,and then the big miracle took place. I
went from acid head to getting on the needle. I think everyone knows what happened to me in the long run.
It's a road I never want to go back down again. It's a dead end. Take it from me. I went down to 110 lbs. real
quick. I'm 175 now, and keep in shape. It's the best I have felt, since I was 18 years old. I picked up a new
hobby, and it has to do with no drugs, no alcohol, and no tobacco in my diet; and to go along with that,
alot of Bible reading. God had a plan for me. I still surf town side, and have chosen to pursue a writing
career. My first novel should go to press by the beginning of 2013, as soon as my ISBN number is secured.
I have learned to play some slack key from James Kealoha, and it's working for me. I like to listen to the
Emerson Brothers on CD. Have been keeping in touch with Cave Man, Gene Lacanaria, and Allan Hauki,
and plan on starting a Blues Band. Maybe, I can talk Steve Kendall into coming over to jam with us, since
he is still playing the traps. We're going over to Steve Wofford's and pull him and Damien Tsurumaki out
of their long sabatical, as well. You know I have so many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren,
that I can't even count them all. Some time in the near future, I plan on getting some land in Kona and one
in Ewa Beach, so they can all come and vacation with me, an I can see them again, as soon as I get my first
epic novel published and send it to press, and get started on the next one. One step at a time. Rome wasn't
built in a day. Everything's starting to move in to place, and I miss all my Ewa beach brother's and sister's.
I wonder what happened to Ralph Moniz's sister maryanne? She was certainly a looker. Well I'm gonna have
to WAVE my little hand for now, and say "SURF'S UP"! Meet you in the water.
ALOHA FOR NOW, NAKY ANDERSON
Aloha Gang - Saw Mike Nii @ Longs yesterday, he told me he still hasn’t got what we all bringing. Please people call him or write to him by E or G mail. Aloha T. P.

Those were the days everybody was cool with each other just surf, the waves were decent and clean mornings. Influences back then were guys like David Cueva, Herbert Pruse, Nathan Moody and my brother Frank who got me started. So many other guys like Peterboy and Imua Paaina just held things tight. The shark country crew were cool also, the Kears, Couchs, Husics so many dudes no bad vibes. My son and I surf together now his name is Ian and he's really in to it, as for me I;m enjoying the moments and looking to upgrade my equipment. I still have my 6'10" round pin single fin Bill Barnsfield bolt from the 70's! Hope to see the gang next month, so many stories to share, Aloha. Peace

Aloha Cleigh. All’s moving along ok so far. Got a call for Mike Kendall yeserday and was very glad to hear from him and that he is doing fine, still the same after all these years. He was asking about what kind of food to bring to the reunion. I told him if anything, bring poke. Cannot go wrong with that. I was trying to put together a list of foods that people will be bringing but so far, only Rick Philips, (Lau Lau)Mike kendall, (Poke, maybe) and myself (Fried Rice). So all of you possible attendees out there kokua and let me know what you will be bringing. Mahalo, Mike
E Paul thanks for remembering the Wongs living on EB Rd. Jus was talking with Ike and telling him how tthey lived right where you said. Also, the Castros were related to Mom on da Brede side. There was Murray, Biggie, Herbert, Hammie.Remember Mr. Thompson telling us one story how the brothers were standing on Fort Weaver throwing small size boulders at cars (mostly haole, service guys). These guys use to eat Sole’s (Samoan) for lunch. Barry Kaleiwaea, Clayton and Buggese Haumea, came to my mind too. Barry died tragicly, run over and dragged by one car.
