I am getting sick of being cut up by my fins. It has happened to me many times and I would like to stop it from ever happening again.
I am aware of the Proteck fins out there. They look like a good alternative.
I like doing glass on fins though.
Has anybody found a safe way to fix the sharp edge on glass on fins like by putting a nosegaurd on the nose of surfboards??
Has anybody invented something that you can stick on to your fins edge to prevent it from slicing you, but also not affect the fins performance??
Are there any safe alternatives for fins in general beside the proteck fins?
Thank you.
sand down the edge so it’s not so razor sharp
How are you cutting yourself so much?
I always think to myself that if I’m going to eat it or bail out on a wave, it would be best done as far away from my board as possible.

Yeah, take 220 paper and have at it. Try to square if first, then round off the corners with a couple passes.
You won’t notice the diff in performance.
O.K. Thanks!
I’ve always done that, but I’ve never had an opportunity with glass ons where I’ve collided with the fins. It’s always happened to me with future fins. The fins were pretty dull too, and they have cut me pretty good by my ear and my foot.
I don’t want to sound like an ashole or anything but if I do glass ons and dull them down like y’all are saying to do - will that not cut me at all or will it cut me but just not as badly as usual??
I’m debating right now on whether I should do glass ons on my next board and dull them or install the Proteck fins?
Thanks again.
once when i was we grommy
i went over the falls landed on my single fin
ON MY ASS.
ouch a fin in the ass
hows that for a fin chop…
i dont think sanding that one down would have made to much difference
Could have been worse … Ask Chipfish !
“could have been worse, ask Chipfish”…
IT’S ONLY A FLESH WOUND …I’VE HAD WORSE !!"
yeah , I now ride my boards with the fins on the BOTTOM [of my boards]
[oh, and by the way …try not to attempt too many kickflips , and you should be okay , Psychesurfer !]
ouch…
i havent actually figured where that is
inches from the lefty tes…
oh … thats really getting personal
lucky ya didnt slice it off mate
sharp fins go in and out of fashion
in and out of bums
really really fast ?
yep it was nearly sayonara chipfish …like eating blowfish you never know if you got the sensitive part [you saw THAT ‘Simpsons’ episode , right ?]
ben hurty hurty
Today I’m glad my computer isn’t recieving pictures. So, I don’t bump into Chip’s attempt at a sex change. The bummer is I’ll never get that picture out of my head. A dull fin will gouge you instead of slice. A slice is easier to suture up and it heals faster. Choose your poison. Mike
Eeewwww Chip.
I’ll make sure that when I go over the falls, I don’t do it spread eagle.
Is that a choad wound?
what’s a choad …sounds like an abbreviation for “choked toad” !
I did it , somehow by landing on top of my fin trying "one last backside re-entry in the shorebreak.
it was …my last …for 3 months [out of the water]
almost my last backside
and
almost a re [ar] entry …
but it’s getting late here …I really must go to bed …
ben
where Bert is , it’s now 1am , at the moment …3am where “silly” is … man , there’s some late night computer addicts here …NO DOUBT…
it’s looking god for a small , cold, glassy, uncrowded [borrowed] longboard session tomorrow …here’s hoping !
choked toad is a good guess…
…but space between scrotum and anus might be better!
Goodnight, Chip!
sidestreet, i do not understand.
but chipfish, good luck with that
on a side note, do you know how to achieve a glossy finish after the hotcoat, without an additional gloss coat? or is this not possible.
i hear about buffing and such
thanks,
GROBEYY!

K-Flex
A unique balance between safety and uncompromized performance. The
K-Flex was designed in conjunction with Kelly Slater, six-time
world champion, and features his high performance and successful K2.1
template and foil. By encasing a stiff composite core in a shock-absorbing,
elastomere outer coating, FCS has created a unique, proven, high-performance
fin with enhanced safety characteristics. The softer edges not only absorb
some impact but also allow for subtle changes in the fin¹s foil in response
to water flow, smoothing the fin¹s feel through turns. Experience this
unique feeling.

PS Chipfish, I think you crossed the line, when you dropped your pants to take that shot!!
This and a coupla other photos got me “Waves” magazine’s ‘slash of the month’ a few years back …$100 voucher from “surf dive n ski” …only redeemable in Sydney [3000 miles away !!]
that was the line I crossed .
Notice how I cropped the photo diplomatically …
three months out of the water .
It DEFINATELY was NOT worth it .
I pay close attention to my fins now…
ben
that’s why i ride single fins…easier to see, and only 1 to worry about.
